Our Vision:
Pride in Self, Pride in Community, Pride in Learning
The Principal's Corner
Dear Lions Family,
I absolutely loved seeing all of our students dressed up with their bright smiles for picture day. It truly makes my heart happy to see their excitement in capturing the perfect picture for you. It was also our best attendance day in the last two weeks!
We know, however, that some sickness has been going around the school. As parents, it can be difficult to decide when a child should stay home and when they are well enough to attend. Please know that your child’s health and safety are always a top priority for us — but so is their education. When students miss school, they also miss valuable instructional opportunities that are essential to their learning.
Thank you for working with us to find that balance and for supporting both your child’s health and their education.
Please review the attached PDF of our Attendance Policy and Student Handbook for parents to review.

2nd grade practices long and short A sounds with shaving cream.
They also did some colorful spelling practice!
Mr. Morris's A&P Class
A&P have spent the last week learning about the characteristics of various tissues found in the human body. They then used our newest microscopes to view them. The microscopes were purchased through the PTO. We want to thank PTO for their generosity, and wanted to let PTO know that students are better able to learn and enjoy science because of them. Thank you PTO!
Mrs. Haley returned to 2nd grade to finish reading Dinosaurs Before Dark!
Check out what Mrs. Lawless's Media Class is doing!
Media students have been working on digitizing old year books. Thank you to alumni who have shared copies for scanning. Students have completed 1948, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1970 and are currently working on 1953 and 1979 editions of Leo's Memoires. Click here to see these yearbooks--what a GREAT project! They are still looking for 1949 and anything prior to 1948. If you have any of these or information about where they might be, contact Mrs. Stacy Lawless at slawless@tuscumbialions.k12.mo.us.

How Sick is Too Sick for School?
We've all gotten up in the morning to a child who says they don't feel well. Sometimes, it's a difficult call as to whether or not to keep them home or send them to school. The following guidelines are very helpful when trying to make that decision--check them out!

Information for Getting a CDL to Drive a Bus
The process for getting a CDL is not difficult, and we will help you! Here is what you need to do:
- Take the written portion of the exam. Here is the study guide. You can get a printed copy at any testing site. You will need to take the test for School Bus, Class B with passengers. You do NOT need to test for air brakes.
- After you pass all portions, take the paper the testing site gives you to the license office and get your permit. You also have to take 2 forms of proof-of-residency and a photo ID.
- Come see us--James Luttrell is our federally approved site trainer, and he will provide your training to take the pre-check and driving portions of the test. He will also take you to the testing site when you take the test. Before he does that, we will need you to complete an application and get a fingerprint background check to ensure you are eligible to work for the district.
- After you pass your test, you will take your paperwork to the license office again with 2 forms of proof-of-residency and a photo ID and get your CDL.
- Keep all of your receipts--we reimburse for the permit, CDL, and fingerprints, and we pay for the drug testing and physical.
- As soon as you have a CDL, are approved by the Board, have a DOT physical, and pass a pre-employment drug test, you can sub bus routes and/or drive activity trips.
Are you interested in becoming a substitute teacher?
If you are interested in becoming a substitute teacher and you do not have the required 36 college hours, you can do an online course that will allow you to get a substitute certificate. Here is the link to that course, and here is the link to the DESE web page that gives you more information about what you need to do to get a substitute certification. Our daily rate for subs for the 2025-26 school year will be $100/day!
