Cohort Update "COURAGE" -2022-

Good morning and welcome to the second week of February and our continued celebration and recognition of Black History Month 2021. Team, as I thought about all that we have been through these past few months and all that still awaits us, one theme continues to circulate in my thoughts. COURAGE! It's a simple word, but vast in application. I have always admired those who have an idea or thought of greatness and have had the COURAGE to step out and move in that direction. Monumental events begin with small calculated steps towards a goal or common purpose. Some things can evolve quickly and some things take many years of focus, but it all begins with the COURAGE to act and take the first step. We all have greatness in us, but are we willing to be Courageous and make moves to make ourselves better and those around us? I am confident that the next Oprah, Jay Z or Tyler Perry are walking the halls of WCHS, but do YOU have the COURAGE needed to realize your own greatness? Imagine...if with every breath that you take your focus was about realizing your potential and putting all of your energy into walking your journey? Imagine...going about your day with your head held upright without fear of failure. Who would you become? Would we be praising your name? Would you be a trailblazer? The answers we need to be great are within each of us, but is the COURAGE to find the time to excel there as well? Have a super week everyone!

Week 2 of Black History Month - Celebrate Greatness!!!

Have the COURAGE to try even when you want to give up. I want each of you to really do your best on ISTEP this week for those of you who are taking it. This benchmark test helps us understand what you have mastered and what we need to help you with academically. Have the COURAGE to try again and to keep getting up when you fall or fail. You are a WC Warrior and We don't FOLD! Have the COURAGE to ask for support even when your pride wants you to be silent. Regardless of what it is that you may need, please give us the opportunity to help you figure it out. We are your school family and you need to know that you can count on us! And finally, have the COURAGE to BE SUCCESSFUL at everything that you set out to do! You have greatness in you...but we need YOU to have the COURAGE to let it shine through. Let's have the best 2nd week in February that you can have and remember that we are with you!

Remember, If you have a new phone number, email address or new address where you live please get that information to me as soon as possible. If you have moved or your address has changed you must provide me with a new lease or mortgage and utility bill information.

Work permits are still being accepted. You can come by with your completed forms and I will look up all of your information to see if you will granted permission to be employed and earn some good money this semester. FYI...school work comes first!

Be sure to get a good nights sleep and have a bit of breakfast for those of you (last names L-Z) who are testing this week. Come ready to kick ISTEP's tail and show the state that you are EASTSIDE strong! Let everyone know that you are battle tested and ready for this exam...let them know 2022!!! #CantFold #WontFold

Good morning Warrior Nation and Happy Black History Month!

Thank you to those students who took part in ISTEP testing last week. You did a wonderful job and made our team very proud! To those students testing this week, remember to sleep well and have a hearty breakfast before each test. And always remember that we believe in you!

Keep an eye on your email this week, as we will be sending out a presentation with important information for heading into senior year.

This has been a difficult school year for everyone. We've all had to work under conditions we aren't used to, and we've had no choice but to learn as we go. As a result, many of you did not earn all of your credits last semester, and we know this has placed additional stress on you.

We want to take this time to remind you that the race isn't over until we reach that finish line. We are already hard at work developing a number of credit recovery options for the coming year to give our YOU the opportunity to get caught up and make it to graduation. But, as always, we cannot do it without YOU!

We need you to have the COURAGE to keep showing up and giving it your all even as things continue to be difficult. We need you to have the COURAGE not to give up even though you may have had a setback. We need you to have the COURAGE to keep pushing toward the future you desire for yourself even though the path to that future has become more rough than it once was.

The finish line is in sight, and we all need to have the COURAGE to keep pace until we cross it...Together!!!

Finally, any students interested in signing up for Teenworks should do so before it's too late (https://teenworks.org/apply/). If you aren't familiar with Teenworks, Ms. Reynolds sent an email on January 8th with all of the information.

1. Sleep - Get extra ZZZZ's the night before to keep your brain alert the next day!

2. Eat breakfast- Your brain needs the nutrients to stay sharp! We will have breakfast available as you walk in!

3. Read the directions - Knowing what is expected of you is 1/2 of the battle!

4. Take your TIME - Relax. Focus on the task at hand. This is not a race!

5. Be positive - a positive attitude will allow you to do your BEST work!

Your entire Cohort Team is cheering for you...so let's Get It In!!!!

1. Be sure to Mask Up!!! Cover your mouth and nose at all times.

2. Wash your hands often and use sanitizer between restroom breaks.

3. Try and talk at a safe distance and keep it brief.

4. Be sure to let an adult in the building know if you are not feeling well.

• Establish and maintain a credit history
• Pay your bills on time
• Establish good credit while you are young
• Open a credit card account, and use it wisely
• Have someone cosign if necessary & be responsible
• Demonstrate stability
• Plan ahead for major credit purchases
