B.F. Day Dayette

I love our assembly days! It's such a wonderful opportunity each month to come together as a community, share routines like our pledge and our song, and enjoy highlights from around the school community. This month we are excited to launch two things with our PTSA partners. We are launching Salmon in the Schools, an exciting cross-curricular, cross-great live salmon project. Look for more information in the coming months from Ms. Oklander and a great crew of parent volunteers.

Our PTSA also launched the Direct Drive campaign, complete with a visit from Sunny the Donation Dragon! The Direct Drive funds so many of things that make B.F. Day special and that go beyond what we receive from the state and district funding formulas. Salmon in the Schools is one great example. Others are additional staffing to support student learning, arts enrichment, special projects, Writers in the Schools, and support for 5th grade field trip. The actual list of supports and activities funded through your generosity is extensive. You make a difference.

This afternoon your child will bring home a golden envelope. Regardless of if your family chooses to donate, please have your student return the envelope. Classes with 100% envelope return earn fun prizes and activities. Last year Ms. Brenna and I kissed a goat because we met our goal of returned envelopes, and classes got to spend time with it in the garden.

We're so grateful for all of the ways you support our community and help us meet the needs of each child. Thank you!

· Makeup portraits: students who missed picture day should plan on getting a portrait taken on November 5. Families can preorder makeup portraits here: 2026-27 B.F. Day Elementary Make-up/ Retake Pre-payments 11/5. Print portraits will be shipped to the school in approximately three weeks after makeup/retake day; digital portraits will be sent via email.

· Retake portraits: Please let your student's teacher know if you would like your student to have a retake. Students who preordered picture day packages can return their package to the photographer in exchange for a retake - a new package of the retake image for all returned packages will be issued at no charge.

· View & Order portraits: families can view their picture day portraits here: 2026-27 B.F. Day Elementary - Online Code = SPS Student ID #. The online code is the student's SPS school ID number. Orders can be placed at any time throughout the school year and are shipped directly to families' homes. The 11/5 makeup/retake portraits will be available for viewing about 2 weeks after makeup/retake day.

Dear Teachers and Staff, I’m pleased to share that I will be returning earlier than expected, beginning next Tuesday, November 3. I’m looking forward to being back with you. I’m deeply grateful to Dan for his support and care during my absence, and to all of you for your kindness and understanding. Please be aware that there may be occasional days, including Mondays, when I am out. For the most part, you can expect me at school Tuesday through Friday. Thank you for your continued compassion and flexibility during this transition. I’m grateful to be part of such a caring community.
