A Note from Mr. Steven Will, Interim Principal

Dear Hardy Families,

As I continue getting to know Hardy, I’m grateful for the warm welcome and for the many ways our students, staff, and families show up for one another each day. It has been great to see the energy on campus and the strong sense of community that makes Hardy such a special place.

We have another busy week ahead, including the kickoff of the Apex Jog-a-Thon—my first Hardy Jog-a-Thon! I’m looking forward to seeing the excitement build as our students get ready to run, walk, cheer, and show their Hardy spirit.

And we have a fun surprise for tomorrow: Tuesday, September 29 is Padres Spirit Day! With the Padres heading into the playoffs, we thought it would be a great time for Hardy to show a little San Diego spirit. ⚾️

🏃‍♀️ Jog-a-thon Mania is HERE!

APEX is here! Students will kick off Hardy’s Jog-a-Thon this week and come home with everything families need to get started. Scroll down ⬇️ to the PTA section for dates, how it works, fundraising info, and what to expect over the next two weeks.

⚽ Soccer at Recess and Lunch

Due to the number of injuries that have occurred during soccer at recess and lunch, we will be suspending soccer activities until further notice.

Our priority is to ensure that recess and lunch remain safe and enjoyable for all students. We appreciate everyone’s understanding and cooperation as we work to create a safe environment for our Hardy students.

📸 Picture Day is this Friday!

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Cancelled: Family Friday

Due to a number of conflicts, this week's Family Friday is cancelled. Our next Family Friday will be Friday, November 6th. We look forward to seeing our Hardy families then!

🎾 More After-School Enrichment Programs Coming Soon!

We’re pleased to report that four new enrichment opportunities are arriving soon!

Kung Fu, chess, dance, and tennis will open for registration later this week with sessions beginning in October. Keep an eye on the After-School Enrichment webpage for flyers and registration links.

💰 Quick Reminder: Complete Your LCFF Form

Hardy is still waiting on 55 families to complete this year’s LCFF form. This short form helps determine the state funding our school receives for student programs, staffing, and support.

To complete it:

Go to PowerSchool Parent Portal at powerschool.sandi.net
Select LCFF Data Collection in the left-hand menu
Complete and submit the form for your student

Important: The LCFF form is not available in the PowerSchool mobile app. Please use a web browser on your phone, tablet, or computer.

It only takes a few minutes, and every completed form helps Hardy receive the funding it’s eligible for.

Hardy's Next Principal: What's Next?

The Level 1 interviews concluded last week, and select candidates will progress to the Community Panel and performance interviews.

As shared with the community by Dr Cazary, here’s the projected timeline:

Oct 2: Community Panel interviews
Oct 6: Performance interview
Oct 8: Superintendent & Deputy Superintendent interviews
Oct 13: Tentative Board approval/announcement
Nov 2: Tentative start date

We’ll continue sharing updates with Hardy families as the process moves forward.

Choice Enrollment Opens NEXT MONDAY, OCT 5

San Diego Unified’s 2027–28 School Choice priority window opens Monday, October 5 and runs through Sunday, November 15.

The Choice program allows families to apply to schools and programs outside their neighborhood boundary. Applications submitted during the priority window are considered together in the January lottery—it is not first-come, first-served.

You can help us to spread the word to families outside the neighborhood who may be interested in coming to Hardy for next year!

PTA & Dads Club Updates

Hardy’s Apex Jog-a-Thon Launches Today!

Our Apex Super Heroes Jog-a-Thon kicked off today with a schoolwide pep rally and runs through Friday, Oct 9, with our Jog-a-Thon on the field at SDSU on Wednesday, October 7!

What it is: Every student participates in the Jog-a-Thon with their class. Families can invite friends and relatives to support their runner with an online donation. Fundraising is encouraged, but not required to participate.
What happens during the two weeks: Apex staff will be on campus leading short daily leadership lessons, classroom challenges, and activities as students prepare for run day.
What we’re raising money for: Our $30,000 goal will support STEAM enrichment, field trips, and classroom support for Hardy students.
How to get started: After today’s pep rally, students will bring home an Apex VIP Badge with their access information. Families can set up their student’s page, add a photo, and share it with grandparents, relatives, friends, coworkers, and neighbors.
Everyone can help: Our class participation challenge rewards the class with the highest percentage of students receiving at least one donation, no minimum amount required.

Run day: Wednesday, October 7

8–9am: TK–2
9–10am: Grades 3–5

We’ll also be unlocking fun schoolwide rewards as we reach fundraising milestones along the way, including Pajama Day, Music at Recess, Otter Pops, and Slime the Teachers at our $30K goal!
