MCAVINNUE'S PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Hello McAvinnue Community!

Another short but super busy week in the books at McAvinnue! We had several positive moments as we are gearing up for the Thanksgiving break in just 7 1/2 days! Students are in the groove with new learning...while our teachers are pushing themselves to be creative and innovative with how they are engaging their students daily. This can be a difficult time of the year for everyone. The upcoming holiday stretch often gets everyone out of the typical routines and there is excitement in the air with all of the celebrations with family and friends. It is important to ensure that your child gets sufficient rest each night and that you do your best to stick with a normal structure and routine at home. This will make things smoother inside and outside of the school setting.

On Tuesday, November 18th, we will host the annual "McAvinnue's Thanksgiving Lunch" for our students! The students really enjoy this meal and we will do our best to make the cafeteria look really special. Our food service team is preparing an amazing lunch that will include the following items: roasted turkey, cornbread stuffing, mashed potatoes and local roasted parsnips, carrots and butternut squash, dinner roll and apple crisp! We plan on continuing this tradition for future years as it is an amazing way for our students to come together in a similar manner as families do on Thanksgiving. Be on the lookout for pictures on Class Dojo!

Quick reminder...We will dismiss students on Wednesday, November 26th at 11:50 AM for the Thanksgiving Break. Keep in mind that this is not the usual time for student dismissal that occurs during Early Release Days. Please make the necessary arrangements to be available for your child on this day. There will be no school for both Ms. Ana's and Ms. Annie's PreK students on this day. McAvinnue's Before School Program will still occur on Wednesday...however, there will be no After School Program on this day. Mark your calendars and make arrangements to be available for your child on this day.

We are looking forward to another amazing week at "the best school we all know"!

Here are a few items that you need to be aware of. Please mark your calendars for the following events and activities at McAvinnue for this upcoming week:

McAvinnue’s “Artist of the Week”

McAvinnue’s “Artist Of The Week” is Nayasha in Room 310! She created a stunning realistic drawing of an apple! Also, she’s showing off all the colored pencil techniques we’ve been learning: layering colors to blend smoothly, creating depth with shades of black and brown, and keeping those highlights bright where the light hits. Amazing work…so impressive!

Kindergarten Field Trip Fun!

Kindergarten students had an absolute blast visiting the Acton Discovery Museum! So much hands-on and exploration learning fun!

November Harvest Of The Month - Kale

This month, we are featuring local KALE! Students get to try local kale with their lunches all of NOVEMBER!

Harvest of the month (HOTM) is a local food initiative program initially developed by Massachusetts Farm to School. It is a way to showcase fruits and vegetables that are grown locally in our region month to month.

Each month, we highlight a local item based off the Massachusetts Farm to School Crop Calendar by featuring it in a meal. Some favorite Harvest of the Month recipes include Peach-Tomato Salsa in August and September, Kale Pesto Pasta in November, and Butternut Squash Mac & Cheese in February!

Students are able to eat locally grown produce while trying new things! Look for our HOTM menu items highlighted in red on the menu each month to see what is coming up next.
