The Raider Report for Parents
Vol 1, Issue 14 - Oct. 26 - Oct. 30
Carranco's Corner
Dear Sam Rayburn Families,
First and foremost, thank you to everyone who attended and supported our Family Engagement Night. Your presence made the evening special, and we have a great opportunity to continue strengthening the partnership between our families and school.
I would also like to thank our Sam Rayburn community for the wonderful birthday wishes and thoughtful gestures. In all my years, it was the best birthday I have ever had at work! I am truly grateful to be part of this community.
This week, I spent time with our 8th-grade Science team reviewing student data and planning how to reengage learners. Our teachers are using evidence of student learning to make focused instructional adjustments and continue growing every student academically.
Just as importantly, we remain committed to building positive relationships with our students. Research consistently highlights two important factors in student success:
A meaningful relationship with a trusted adult.
A strong connection to school—both inside and outside the classroom.
Coach Medina’s Drone Club was a wonderful example during Family Engagement Night. It was inspiring to see so many students and families gathered around the club, learning together and sharing in the excitement.
We are reviewing our clubs, committees, and student organizations so we can expand opportunities for every Raider to discover an interest, build relationships, and feel connected to Sam Rayburn. Please encourage your child to participate when these opportunities are shared.
Relationships create connections, connections build engagement, and engagement opens the door to learning. Thank you for partnering with us as we continue moving Sam Rayburn from good to great.

PTA
Let's get this started.
Sam Rayburn Middle School is one of the few campuses without an active Parent Teacher Association, and I would like your help changing that.
A strong PTA gives families a voice, supports our students and staff, and strengthens our school community.
If you are interested in helping us establish a PTA, please contact me at Lawrence.Carranco@nisd.net. Together, we can build something meaningful for our Raiders!

Alvarado’s Advice
As part of our Red Ribbon fun, Rayburn students and staff will be allowed to wear costumes on Friday, October 30. Students who choose to wear a costume must follow these expectations:
Faces must remain visible, with no full-face makeup, masks, hoods, or head coverings.
Costumes must not be inflatable.
Costumes and props must not resemble weapons or depict violence, drugs, or alcohol.
Costumes must be appropriate and provide adequate coverage.
All costumes must comply with the NISD student dress code.
Students who do not meet these expectations will be asked to change into appropriate clothing.
Thank you for helping us ensure everyone has a safe and fun Halloween celebration!
Counselor's Connection
Red Ribbon Week at Sam Rayburn Middle School
Get ready for Red Ribbon Week, October 26–30! This week is all about making healthy choices, staying drug-free, and showing that we can say NO to drugs and YES to a healthy, positive future. Staff and students are encouraged to participate in our fun daily spirit days and help us spread the message throughout campus.
Join us on Wednesday morning in the courtyard for a special Counselor Pop-Up as we raise awareness about Red Ribbon Week and promote the importance of making healthy, positive choices. Let’s come together as a Rayburn family to encourage positive decisions, support one another, and promote a safe, healthy, drug-free school!
