Welcome to the BHS Express
A newsletter keeping you informed about Batavia High School
Hello Bulldog Families.
Today officially wraps up the first quarter of the 2026-2027 school year! The school year can get busy and move quickly, so this is why we encourage students to keep up on all school obligations. Families, we need your help encouraging your high school students to stay caught up and to check their grades regularly.
As a reminder, there is NO SCHOOL for students tomorrow, October 16th and on Monday, October 19th. These student days off will serve as a nice break so that everyone can begin the second quarter on Tuesday, October 20th, with a refreshed attitude. We hope that all BHS students enjoy this little break.
Make sure you take a few minutes to review the picture retake information in the flyer below. It’s important that you indicate that you plan for the “retake” option if you do not like your student’s photos from the original picture day. Our “retake” day is next week on October 22nd.
Next week is also full with the PSAT test for sophomores and juniors (review the Parent letter that is linked into this newsletter), and the BHS PTO Carnival/Haunted House on Saturday! We hope everyone will come out to Bulldog Place on Saturday!
We wish our BHS students a great four-day weekend! We will be ready to welcome them back for the second quarter on Tuesday, October 20th.
In service to our Bulldogs.

#EveryBulldogEveryDay
Hi, Bulldog Families.
And just like that, we have completed the 1st quarter! We had a very successful 1st quarter which can sometimes be challenging as students get back into routines and freshmen adjust to high school expectations.
As we head into the 2nd quarter, I wanted to share some personal news. I will be taking paternity leave very soon as my wife and I are expecting our second child this fall. Another daughter to boss me around!
While I am out, please reach out to Mr. Moorehead or Mrs. Conner if you need to contact an administrator. Have a great weekend!
Go Bulldogs!

Hello, Families.
It’s hard to believe that we just wrapped up the first quarter of the school year this past week. And, students get a well deserved and hopefully relaxing fall break weekend.
Fall is definitely making its transition as the weather and leaves begin to change as some of our midwest trees begin a type of hibernation. The green colors of spring and summer give way to the hues of orange and red as the amount of photosynthesis decreases. With this being said, a mixture of the leaves on some of the roadways with rain can lead to slippery conditions. Remind your student drivers to be careful in these situations especially on backroads.
Parking passes are still available as students earn their driving privileges. Students must have a valid parking pass and parking spot to drive on school grounds during the school day. Students should not be parking on school property without one. Students can email me if they have any questions.
Lastly, please remind students to drive carefully and arrive on time as we begin the second quarter next week.
Thank you,
Joe Moorehead, Dean of Students

Continue the fun at Bulldog Place on Saturday October 24th. After the BMS PTO Craft Fair, come on over to the carnival and haunted house at 4 Bulldog!
Mr. Carter's World History Class
World History has been learning about the impact of urbanization during the Industrial Revolution Age and how life changed for most people in Europe. Groups of students had to create their own pre-industrial village and farm land, only to urbanize the space step by step, year after year in the 1700-1800’s. The groups realized the difficulties and struggles of adding so many buildings, factories, and people into such a small space in a short amount of time.

The FAFSA Application opened October 1!!!!
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for students entering or attending college for the 2027-28 academic year is up and running! Any student that is thinking about attending any type of education/training after high school should complete the FAFSA - technical school, trade school, community college, public university, or private university. The FAFSA is what determines your eligibility for student loans, grants, work-study, and scholarships - thus, it is VERY important that you complete and submit it. Keep in mind, all students are eligible for student loans! We will continue to share information and helpful resources with you and your family as we receive it!
The Ohio Department of Higher Education would like to share that the 2027-28 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is available for all families to complete. Families who want to start filling out the FAFSA now can start the process at studentaid.gov.
