Letter from the Principal
Mustang Memo: November 1, 2025
2025-2026 School Year
Dear WES families,
October was a busy month at WES, and it seemed to fly by! We completed NWEA testing, hosted our Fall Family Night, celebrated our amazing custodians and bus drivers, held our first-ever Trunk or Treat event (thank you to our wonderful PTO!), recognized our Model Mustangs at the monthly assembly, enjoyed Principal Lunches, and spent time learning about cooperation.
As we head into November, we’re looking forward to another full and exciting month. Here are a few upcoming highlights:
-
No School on Tuesday, November 11 in observance of Veterans Day
-
PTO Holiday Fair – Saturday, November 15
-
Family Conferences – Thursdays, November 13 and November 20
-
Thanksgiving Break – No school November 26–28
Throughout November, our school-wide focus will be on gratitude.
Please take a moment during conferences to check our Lost and Found for any of your child's missing items.
Please be sure to fill out the planned absence form at least 3 days prior to any planned family trips or absences from school. If your child has a doctor's appointment or they are sick, please call the office.
Finally, if your family is in need of support during the government shutdown, please visit the RSU 57 website for available resources or reach out to the main office—we’re here to help.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
Respectfully,
Mrs. LeSieur- Principal
Mr. Stinson- Assistant Principal
Character Trait of the Month
November- Gratitude
#1- During the month of November, we’re going to focus on gratitude, which means being thankful for the good things in our lives.
#2 Gratitude helps us feel happy and kind, and it reminds us to appreciate all the people, things, and moments that make our lives special. Whether it’s a teacher helping you in class, a friend making you laugh, or even something as simple as a sunny day, there is always something to be thankful for.
#3- Today, I encourage each of you to think about one thing you're grateful for. Maybe it's your family, your friends, or something in your classroom. Take a moment to say "thank you" to someone today—whether it's a classmate, a teacher, or even your parents at home.

Safety Drills
As part of our ongoing commitment to keeping students and staff safe, we will be conducting a practice lockdown drill this week. Over the past few weeks we have practiced a hold in place and one lockdown drill. These drills are an important part of our safety procedures and help ensure that everyone knows what to do quickly and calmly in the event of an emergency.
Just like fire drills, lockdown drills are practiced each year to teach everyone how to respond safely. Teachers have gone over expectations by explaining what to expect and why it’s important to practice.
We appreciate your support in reinforcing that these drills are a normal part of school safety and that practicing helps everyone know what to do. If your child has questions or expresses worry, we encourage you to reassure them that this is simply a way to make sure our school community is always ready and safe.

Family Night- October
Family Math Night Adds Up to Fun and Learning at Waterboro Elementary School
Earlier this month, Waterboro Elementary School hosted our annual Family Math Night. It was heartwarming to see so many families come together for this fun and educational fall event! The evening’s theme centered around geometry. Families had the opportunity to explore a variety of hands-on stations that made math both interactive and exciting.
A highlight of the night was our collaboration with the Maine Department of Education (MDOE), who provided a special geometry station that sparked curiosity and creativity among students and parents alike. Attendees enjoyed working together to solve problems, discover new math concepts, and take home math manipulatives and books to keep the learning going at home.
The celebration of math continued the next day as Sue Cavanaugh, MDOE Math Specialist, visited several Waterboro Elementary School classrooms. She modeled high-quality math instruction and shared effective strategies with teachers to further support student learning and engagement.
A big thank you to all the families, staff, and community partners who helped make Family Math Night such a success. We look forward to more opportunities to learn and grow together!
Thank a Teacher and Buy a Book!
We’re thrilled to announce a new partnership with Sherman’s Bookstore in Saco to celebrate our amazing educators and foster a love of reading in our classrooms!
As part of this special event, our teachers are creating Wish Lists of books they’d love to add to their classroom libraries. These titles will be available both at the Saco store and online, making it easy for families to help fill our classrooms with fresh stories and learning adventures!
During the first two weeks of November, Massabesic students and families can enjoy a 25% discount on Wish List book purchases made in person at the Saco Sherman’s location or online at Sherman’s website.
When shopping online, please remember to:
Use the code MASS25 at checkout.
Include a note in the comments field that your order is part of the Massabesic fundraiser.
Thank you for helping us “Thank a Teacher and Buy a Book!” Every purchase brings new books, new ideas, and new excitement for reading to our students.

Family Event Sponsored by Hospice of Southern Maine
The family grief day event is completely free and open to any child and family who is grieving a loss, whether or not they lost someone on our hospice service. We will be providing a holiday memory ornament activity, as well as other supportive art projects and games, snacks and hot chocolate, and visits with our therapy dogs. This is a drop-in event on Saturday, December 13 from 10-1; families are able to come anytime during that period and do not need to sign up ahead of time.
Attendance
As we prepare to take time off from school in November, Veteran’s Day 11/11 and Thanksgiving
break 11/26-11/30, we want to share our gratitude for everyone in our school community. Your
partnership makes it possible for students to come to school every day, on time and ready to
learn. Every day of school is an important opportunity for students to connect with peers and
teachers, and to grow personally, socially and academically.
We are thankful for our students and their families who show up to school regularly, even
when it isn’t easy. Our staff who go above and beyond to help make school a welcoming
learning environment and help us stay safe, connected and excited about learning. Our many
helpers from support staff and volunteers who provide the extra hands and attention our students
need.
We appreciate everyone’s efforts to be present during this holiday season. If you have any
planned absences coming up, please complete a Planned Absence Form and submit it at least 3 days in advance. If your family or your child needs any support, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our main office, administrators, or social workers.
We look forward to seeing students again after our upcoming days off. Thank you for partnering
with us and showing up each and every day.
