High school can be a big transition for freshmen. One way that families can support is by checking in with students about their grades. Students, the best way to help yourself academically is to check your grades. This can be done easily on the parent end through Infinite Campus. For students, you have a variety of options! You can speak directly with your teacher, check Schoology, and access Infinite Campus. Keeping up on your grades lets you know what you are missing. A weekly check-in ensures that you will not fall behind to the point of no return.

REMINDER: High school grades matter! All freshmen are required to earn 6 credits to be promoted to 10th grade. Starting the year off with strong grades in the first marking period increases your chances of finishing strong for the school year.

Students, if you have missing work, this is the week to check in with your teacher, make a list, and make a plan for completion. The marking period ends Friday, October 30, 2026. There is still time to complete work and bring your grades up. Most importantly, HAVE A CONVERSATION WITH YOUR TEACHER! Don't just make a plan by yourself. Talk to your teacher so that you can prioritize assignments and maximize catching up if you are behind. If you have an upcoming summative, STUDY! Summatives are 70% of your grade. They are important, and we want you to have the greatest opportunity for academic success!

Parent Teacher Conferences ~ Thursday Evening 10/22 and Friday 10/23 Parent Teacher Conferences ~ Thursday Evening 10/22 and Friday 10/23

From the Desk of Dr. Seemans

Bulldog Families,

Our model for parent-teacher conferences this year will be slightly different from what has historically been done at Brandywine High School. We are going to implement a “drop-in” model where parents can stop by at a time that is convenient for them during a two-day window. There will be no need to schedule an appointment or have to navigate multiple links. We want to break down barriers for families to make it convenient for them to attend.

The first window will be after school this Thursday, October 22, from 3 pm to 7 pm. The second time window will be from 8am to 11am this Friday, October 23. As a reminder, schools are closed on Friday, October 23, for students, but are open for conferences. Teachers will be clustered in three main areas so parents don’t have to navigate the entire building. Parents will just need to locate their child’s teachers in one of these main areas and sit down to discuss concerns and work collaboratively on next steps to help their child succeed.

Below you will find a schedule which includes what teachers/staff will be here over the two-day period and a couple of points of emphasis:

  • Meetings with teachers will be limited to 10 minutes, particularly if other parents are waiting
  • If an administrator, counselor, or teacher has not reached out via a phone call and/or email to encourage you to attend the conferences, then a meeting is not necessary for your child, as they are most likely succeeding in their classes

If you cannot make either conference window, please reach out to your child’s teacher to schedule a meeting either in person or virtually. You can find BHS’s staff directory HERE. Teachers who are unable to attend will have either a sign-up sheet or another mechanism to let them know you would like to conference with them.

We will also have members of our Student Support Services team (Special Education Coordinators, School Counselors, School Psychologist, Social Worker, School Nurse) available during conferences.

Although these conferences are intended for our at-risk students, we will not turn away any family who decides to attend. Our teachers are eager to support all students and families and want to see everyone succeed at Brandywine High School. Families of students who are not considered at-risk are encouraged to reach out to teachers via email with any questions or who may request an update.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to a member of your child’s support team. Contact information is below.

Your child’s support team is as follows:

In order to earn high school credits, you must be present. 14 or more days of absence will result in class failure, even if your grade in the class is passing. In order to be promoted to the 10th grade, you must earn 6 credits. This would be passing all four of your content areas: Math, Science, Social Studies, and English, as well as PE and an elective.

Being late to class can result in a hall sweep, with consequences ranging from lunch detention to an in-school suspension, depending on the frequency. Parents will be notified if students are chronically late to classes.

Meeting deadlines is critical to completing work, academic success, and success in the marketplace. Thus, BHS does have a universal late work policy. We want to ensure that your grades reflect your academic growth, as well as your persistence and perseverance in meeting deadlines. Communication is also key! If you know you have something going on or are having trouble with a concept, reach out BEFORE the deadline so your teacher can work with you, and you receive the proper credit.
