“Foster Growth by Challenging Critical Thinkers to Take Risks,
Honor Differences & Care for Others”
EARTH DAY CELEBRATIONS
Students across all grade levels at Gold Rush Elementary celebrated Earth Day this week with a variety of thoughtful and engaging activities. Our school counselor themed this week’s Wellness Wednesday around honoring and appreciating our planet, aligning beautifully with the goals of Earth Day.
As a reminder, Wellness Wednesday offers students additional opportunities for calming classroom activities and sensory breaks that support their emotional well-being. This week, those moments were centered around nature and the importance of taking care of our earth. Students enjoyed movement breaks and reflective exercises that encouraged them to connect with and appreciate the world around them.
In the primary grades, students read books focused on the importance of recycling. They explored how authors use their writing to persuade others to protect the planet, sparking meaningful discussions about individual responsibility and the power of words. Our kindergartners wrapped up their learning by creating their own versions of the Lorax—the beloved character who speaks for the trees and champions the environment.
Earth Day reminded us all that even our youngest learners can make a difference. Their curiosity, compassion, and creativity are already helping to shape a better world.
PAWSITIVELY BRILLANT PARENTS
This week, we take a moment to recognize and celebrate a truly vital part of our school community—our incredible PTO and dedicated parent volunteers. Your time, energy, and enthusiasm make Gold Rush Elementary a truly special place for our students, staff, and families.
We are so grateful for the many ways you support our school every day. Whether you're leading daily reading groups, organizing math journals, or helping in countless other ways, your efforts ensure that every classroom can meet the academic and social-emotional needs of each child.
Our PTO has gone above and beyond to create memorable and meaningful experiences for our students and families. From the excitement of the Digger Dash and Western Night to the creativity of the Holiday Market and Book Fairs, and from the joy of the Mother/Son Events to the community celebration at Festival on the Field—these events would not be possible without your leadership and commitment.
Thank you for making GRE the vibrant, caring, and connected community that it is. We are so fortunate to have such an engaged and passionate group of volunteers. Your impact is felt every day, and we are truly grateful.
EXPLORING POETRY & DRAMA
One of the key benefits of our core literacy program, Benchmark, is the wide variety of genres it introduces to students. In addition to engaging with both fiction and nonfiction texts, students read, analyze, write, and perform poetry and drama.
Currently, our fourth graders are diving into the world of drama by analyzing how settings and characters influence their understanding of a play. They are especially enthusiastic about bringing stories to life through their own readers’ theater performances.
In poetry, students are expressing their creativity through several types of poems, including color poems, self-descriptive poems, and poems about the change they wish to see in the world. This meaningful work is helping students build both their literacy skills and their voices as writers.
PLC DAY: PLANNING FOR STUDENT SUCCESS
Gold Rush educators are proud to be part of a professional learning community. This week, our teachers are looking forward to a dedicated planning day focused on supporting every individual student as we prepare for the upcoming school year.
The day will begin with our staff attending the State of the District presentation led by Superintendent Kane. Following this, our team will return to Gold Rush to celebrate our shared successes and collaborate on refining common building practices through the lens of our IMTSS framework.
IMTSS—which stands for Integrated Multi-Tiered System of Supports—guides our approach to supporting the whole child. It includes systems related to academics, behavior, family and community partnerships, physical health, mental wellness, and emotional development. IMTSS is a preventative, data-driven framework designed to ensure every child receives the support they need to thrive.
During our planning day, teachers will:
-
Reflect on and celebrate current practices under each IMTSS area
-
Identify opportunities for growth across the school
-
Place students into classes with thoughtful attention to their academic, social, and emotional needs
-
Review parent input and curriculum plans to help guide these decisions
We are incredibly proud of our educators’ commitment to collaboration and student-centered planning. We are confident that this important day will set the stage for another great year at Gold Rush!
