Principal's Notes
As our students continue to master their new school and classroom routines, we celebrated two special events this week! Monday brought Picture Day excitement as students showed off their brightest smiles for their school portraits. Then Thursday evening, our classrooms came alive during Open House/Curriculum Night as families joined us to explore learning spaces, connect with teachers, and discover what this school year has in store. We were thrilled by the fantastic turnout and appreciate all the families who took time to visit, ask questions, and engage with our educational community. These moments of connection between home and school help create the strong foundation that supports every child's success. Thank you for being such an involved and supportive school family!
Each year on September 17th, each class celebrates Constitution Day with developmentally appropriate lessons. Be sure to ask your child about the Constitution Day lesson to see what they can recall and share with you.
We have noticed some unexpected behaviors in the bathrooms this week including water being sprayed all over the floor, purposely clogged toilets, and intentionally locked stall doors. Please help us remind children of the expected behaviors in all bathrooms with the verbal reminder of Quick, Quiet, and Clean!
Norwell CARES Day is taking place on Thursday, September 25th. This is a day when the students at Norwell High School connect with the community in a variety of ways. We look forward to welcoming the juniors to Cole School on that day to work with classrooms and the sophomores to complete a few projects around the building.
- Ninth-grade students and peer leaders will participate in our Advisory Kick-Off Day, which helps freshmen transition to high school by fostering connections with their homeroom peers and teacher.
- Tenth-grade students will be involved in our Tens Around Town program, engaging in service projects at prearranged locations throughout Norwell.
- Eleventh-grade students will take part in our Juniors to Juniors program, spending the day building relationships with elementary students at both Cole and Vinal Schools.
- Twelfth-grade students will host the Senior to Senior program, creating a carnival-style atmosphere here at the high school.
Magnificent Meerkats
The joy radiating from students when they receive their Magnificent Meerkat recognition is truly heartwarming. Seeing their faces light up as they hear why they were nominated creates such powerful moments of celebration. This straightforward recognition program has proven incredibly effective at acknowledging students who consistently demonstrate positive and expected behaviors throughout the week. The pride and excitement in their expressions says it all and these Magnificent Meerkats are truly shining!

School Counseling Corner
This week, we continued Unit 1 from Second Step with lessons about paying attention, how mistakes help us learn, and goal-setting. As a reminder, you can read all about lessons and our SEL curricula on my website. Also, I am still happily accepting donations of gently used or unwanted craft/building materials, like Looms, bracelet materials, Legos, etc, for students to borrow and use at recess.
Specialists' Scoop
This week in PE/Gym Class, kindergarteners started their throwing and catching unit! In open space, students practiced tossing and catching a beanbag with different sets of challenges. Grades 1-5 warmed up with a fun aerobic game of Cone Flip and learned the rules of Gaga Ball! Using physical education elements of dodging, evading, jumping, striking, strategizing and running, there was a lot of excitement and smiles. Ga Ga Ball!
