ENGAGED COMMUNITY
Principal's Message
Dear Ross Glen Families,
It’s been a wonderful start back to classes! We’ve loved seeing the students’ bright smiles and how quickly they’ve settled back into their classroom routines.
November is a time for reflection, gratitude, and connection within our school community. As we move into this new month, I want to share a few important updates and events happening at our school.
We will be holding our Remembrance Day Assembly on Monday, November 10th at 10:45 a.m. Due to the limited time to prepare for the assembly, every class will not be performing like they have in the past. Thank you for your understanding. We will have a guest speaker and a couple of students speaking during the assembly. Families are welcome to join us as we take time to honour and remember those who have served and continue to serve our country.
Please note that there have been changes to our school division calendar. The PD Days in November, January, and April are now instructional days. An updated calendar is included at the bottom of this newsletter for your reference. Adjustments have been made to reporting periods for the 25-26 school year. Report cards will be released on January 30th and June 26th. To help keep you involved and informed about your child’s progress, we will also be hosting Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences on December 3/4 and March 18/19 from 3-6 (a letter is attached). These conferences are a chance to talk about how your child is doing, celebrate their strengths, look at areas for growth, and work together to support their learning. Sign-up will happen through Edsby closer to the conference dates.
We are also looking forward to a wonderful school community event later this month! School Council is hosting Winter Waves on Thursday, November 27th from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at the Big Marble Go Centre. Students and families are invited to come swim and celebrate the season together. Miss Fedorak will once again be taking photos with Santa in the Sage Room, and the digital photos will be shared with families at no cost following the event. We have attached a link to a Google Form for families to complete, which will help us get an idea of how many swimmers we will have, as the facility needs to have adequate lifeguards on duty. Please complete the Google Form by November 12th so we can relay that information to the facility. A heartfelt thank you to our School Council for organizing and funding this special evening for our school community.
Thank you for your continued support and for all you do to make our school such a positive and caring place for students to learn and grow.
Take care,
Natosha

Extra-Curricular Activities
Grade 4-6 Student Leadership
Miss Fedorak leads the Grades 4-6 Student Leadership. They meet weekly to develop fun activities for the school and to decide on Dress-Up Day themes. The student leadership group will select a winner from grades 1-3 and a winner from grades 4-6.
Student Leadership Dress-Up Day
Roadrunners Scare Hunger
Our grade 5 students are leading the food drive for the Root Cellar through their social studies curriculum. They are studying citizenship and learning to understand that local, national, and global issues empower individual and collective action toward an inclusive society. The knowledge they are increasing is that informed citizens can respond to issues and events by taking actions, such as sharing information, collecting donations, volunteering, and changing personal behaviours.
Between now and Monday, November 17, classes are encouraged to collect non-perishable food donations such as canned goods, boxes of pasta, soup, or juice. Let’s work together as a school community to make a difference as all donations go to the Root Cellar Food Bank. The class that brings in the most food donations will win a bonus Phys. Ed period with Mr. Hyde.
Apple School
What is an Apple School?
As an Apple School, we strive to build a healthy school community focusing on improving students' mental health, physical activity, and eating habits for life.
November Campaign
November's campaign is "Unwind your Mind" with the focus on being mindful.
What is mindfulness?
It’s about maintaining awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and the surrounding environment. Being mindful helps us pay attention and practice being present in the moment, instead of thinking about the past or the future. Mindfulness teaches you to be in control of your mind, instead of the other way around.
How do you practice mindfulness?
Meditation, relaxation, deep breathing, reading, and stretching are all ways to train your mind and body to relax while you take time for yourself. Slowing down and taking long, deep breaths can help you get perspective, come up with creative solutions to problems, and decrease your anxiety.
1. Take a slow breath in through your nose all the way down to your lower belly for about 4 seconds. 2. Hold that breath for 1-2 seconds.
3. Exhale your breath slowly through your mouth for about 4 seconds.
4. Wait 2-3 seconds before taking another breath. Repeat.
Try doing this about 6-8 times per minute for about 5 minutes, twice a day
The taste test for November is grape tomatoes.
