From the Principal's Desk:

Dear Salisbury Families:

Happy New Year! I hope folks had really nice holiday seasons, and Winter Breaks! I had a few family members over during the break, and then my wife, children and I went and visited my wife's parents in New Jersey. They are 84 and 86 and going strong, so it's always great to see them, especially as my own father passed away a few years ago. I hope you all had chances to make important connections as well!

Not too many important events on the near horizon- honestly, December has so many that January is a good time to keep kids in classes and staying in the learning groove. We are looking forward to more literacy events (including in the evening!) in February and March- as well as a concert in February, so keep your eyes peeled for info about those.

At ACSD generally, the big news is that it is budget season! Salisbury Community School is in the nice position (and not a common one in Vermont) where our school has grown over the past few years while many others in the state have not. As a result, budget season is not planned to have a big impact on SCS. Across the district there will be some changes, however, and ACSD has created some opportunities to learn about those. Please look under "ACSD News and Announcements" for more info on how you can learn more.

Thanks for reading- hope you all have a great week!

Our Band and Chorus put on a great show!

Kudos to our band and chorus, who treated us to a concert before break! It was incredibly impressive how much our students have learned this year, and it was inspiring for our younger students to see such good role models when it come to trying new things and putting yourself out there in front of others! Thanks so much to our music instructor Sarah Metcalf for all the hard work and positive vibes that go into an event like this!

Skating was a blast!

On the Friday before break we all packed up and went to the Memorial Sports Center in Middlebury for some skating! It was awesome to see our students winging around, and to see so many family members come and take part! As always, we appreciate Rick Marshall and the MSC for helping us out and being so welcoming. We also thank Monument Farms Dairy, who kindly lets us borrow milk crates for this event.

Another successful Holiday Dollar Store from FOSCS!

The Wednesday before break featured our Annual "Holiday Dollar Store", and it was a great success! Thanks to all of our FOSCS members who volunteered (especially Jen Armstrong, who led the way), and thank you SO MUCH to all the community members who donated items that our students could choose to give to others! The students REALLY love this event, and thanks to all of you for making it happen!

New for 24-25: The Time-Lapse Picture Project

This year, we thought it would be fun to chronicle the changes of the season at Salisbury Community School by taking the same picture, at the same time, from the same spot, every week. At the end of the year it will hopefully be a fun thing to look at and share!
