POSITIVITY PROJECT
Dear Families,
This week, our school will focus on the character strength of Self-Control. Self-control means having the ability to control your emotions and behaviors. You think before you act.
Having self-control helps people stay calm during tough times and avoid impulsive actions. It doesn’t mean you don’t have thoughts or feelings; it means you can manage them.
When working or gathering in groups, self-control is shown through “self-monitoring.” This means being honest about what works and what doesn’t. Group members adjust their roles to help the group succeed.
To practice and encourage the character strength of self-control at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families (available in English and Spanish), where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions. Below are links to this week’s P2 for Families lessons. Click on the grade level that best meets your child’s needs.
Thank you for your continued support!

Computer Science Month Books on SORA
See what Computer Science books are on the shelf in Westwood’s library: Click HERE Hint: use your PUSD username/password to view the lists.
Have some extra time to read over the holidays? You can use SORA which is the digital library available to all PUSD students. It’s available 365 days a year so even when students are not in school, they still have access to books. Once you login to MyPlan, click on the SORA K-8 app in the Library Resources/Research. Here’s how you can get started with SORA. Want access to more eBooks? Simply add a library in SORA, here’s how.
Storyline Online is a great website by the Screen Actors Guild. Watch famous actors read your favorite books… even better, it’s free!
TeachingBooks.net is an amazing resource for students, teachers and parents. Here's a short tutorial on what TeachingBooks has to offer. For example, how to pronounce an author’s name, book trailers, diverse book lists, reader’s advisory and so much more! For students who love a particular type of book and want to discover similar books, check out this Two-minute Takeaway.
Looking for resources for English language learners? Click HERE! Don’t miss out! Username: powayusd Password: teachingbooksk12
Need more resources and information? Visit Westwood Library Canvas Course to view the many resources available.
The used book sale will be held every Thursday, unless it’s raining, just outside the library. Proceeds of the sale go to buying books that students are asking for. It’s a great way to support the library. Only 25 cents a book!
Give the gift of reading & support your child’s love of reading by donating new books to the library! Any new hardcover books that are purchased and donated are greatly appreciated! Here’s a link: Amazon Wish List. Donated books will have a book plate in the front of the book with your child’s name and they’ll have first check out privileges.
Another way to support the library is to donate gently used children’s books appropriate for TK-5th grade , printer paper, hand sanitizer, or kleenex. You can drop them off in the library with a note.
I wish you a merry and bright holiday season! Thank you for supporting your child’s love of reading and learning at Westwood Elementary!
