Ridge Relay
Soaring to Success - August 16, 2024
Hello Eagles!
We had a phenomenal first three days of school - Classes are going great and so is morning drop-off too! Thank you all for doing such a wonderful job coming early for drop-off, pulling all the way up and getting to school on time - we had a new record of 0 tardies on both the 2nd and 3rd days of school - it was amazing! Families, please keep up the great work of not waiting until the last minute to come to campus - coming earlier around 8:35am helps us to not have a traffic back-up and it all runs so much smoother :)
In the mornings, if your student does not have his or her items ready to get out of the car or needs assistance unloading something like a large instrument, please feel free to pull into our front row of parking to help them so that you do not back-up the drop-off line.
Please continue to remind your students to always use the crosswalks in both the morning and afternoon - safety is our #1 priority! We have had some close calls in the afternoons of students running out into the street to cross - please tell your child to go to the crosswalk.
Go Eagles!
Mrs. Wendy Sturdevant

Attendance Reminders
Important Attendance Reminders:
- Absence notes should be emailed to crmsattendance@leanderisd.org within 48 hours of the absence.
- When you email the school, please include the student's first and last name and ID #. Student nicknames can cause confusion with attendance coding. Please note why the student was absent or what kind of appointment they had (medical/dental) otherwise it will be unexcused due to lack of info.
If you will be picking up your child from school early, please call the school (512-570-3500) ahead of time to let the Receptionist know. This allows our Receptionist time to get a pass written ahead of time and helps to move the process along more quickly. The latest a student may be picked up early is 4pm due to our end-of-day dismissal.
- The only people who will be permitted to pick up a child will be parents/guardians and those individuals listed as an emergency contact in your Home Access Center (HAC). Due to safety reasons, we are no longer allowing a parent to call in and give permission for someone to pick up your child during the school day other than those listed in HAC.
We do not allow early pick up after 4:00pm.
- If you feel like there is an error for a particular class period, please email the teacher directly first. For example, if your student was tardy and the teacher accidentally already marked the student absence, email the teacher because the attendance office has to have it in writing from the teacher before attendance can update anything
- There is a turn around time in updates if a student was with the nurse, AP, counselor, etc. It is not necessary to email the attendance office. Please remember that we have 1000 students so it will take 2-4 business days to show the update. We appreciate your patience and understanding that our team is working tirelessly to support all of our Eagles!

Update on Cell Phone Expectations at CRMS
We are reaching out to let you know of some updates we have made to cell phone practices currently in use on our campus for 2024-25. Cell phones are everywhere. They can be handy tools, but also insidious distractions. We have seen a rise in student violations with regards to the use of cell phones, AirPods, and social media on campus, which directly impacts our student learning, student relationships, bullying, campus culture and safety.
CRMS Campus Cell Phone Expectations
Maintaining the integrity of the learning environment is a top priority, which is why these changes will be implemented. We will begin using new practices, detailed below, so that students know what to expect and teachers have a consistent system to help students manage expectations.
At CRMS, students will be permitted to bring cell phones or other items used for communication. However, cell phones and all functions within the cell phone (i.e. cameras, AirPods/headphones, and all other applications) are expected to stay in their backpacks at all times, on do not disturb or powered off, and are prohibited during class unless permitted under Section 504 or within a student’s IEP. Phones and AirPods/headphones may only be used on school grounds before school, during “recess” time at lunch, and after school as long as students are not violating the District’s acceptable use guidelines.
We are aware that special circumstances arise and sometimes an important call must be made or received. Students are advised to communicate with their teachers if there are extenuating circumstances on a particular day. In the event of a true emergency, parents who need to get a message to their student during the school day can call the CRMS Receptionist at (512)570-3500, and a message will be delivered to their child. Should a student need to contact their parent(s) during the school day, they may use the phone available in the front office area.
Student Expectation: Cell phones and earbuds/headphones are to be stored in students’ backpacks for the entire school day (including in class, hallways, passing periods, bathrooms, while eating, in athletics areas, etc). If a student violates the cell phone procedure during class, in the halls, restroom, etc., consequences will apply consistent with the gravity of the infraction and the CRMS cell phone use guidelines.
Why the change?
Here is a recent video clip for reference and more information on why we are making a change to our campus requirements this year. Here is more information on why the change at CRMS.We are excited to begin a new school year and are looking forward to a school experience where students are “untethered” from their personal devices and social media during the school day as we foster a culture of interactions and build a stronger, more connected, and positive school community.
