Reading-

What will we be learning this week? What will we be learning this week?

Reading

Phonics:

During phonics this week, we will work on adding –ing to words with VC and VCC patterns. Please view the video below on adding -ing to words with VC and VCC patterns.We will also learn how morphology can help us determine the meaning of a word. Specifically using the following morphemes:

Prefixes: <re->,<mis>,<un>,<non>

Suffixes: <-ful>, <-ing>

We will also dive into our first reading/writing module, THE SEA! The link below is a curriculum overview for families. Feel free to explore it!

https://greatminds.org/english/witwisdom/family-engagement

This week, we will specifically focus on how artists explore the sea. We will dissect the poem, “The Sea Wind” by Sara Teasdale, and investigate “The Boating Party” and “The Gulf Stream” as our core art pieces. As we discuss the central message behind how these artists explore the sea, we will practice writing topic sentences and identifying nouns and verbs.

Suffix ING - 4 Minute Phonics

Math

This week students will use their place value understanding to add and subtract within 10,000 using the partial sums strategy.

Reading Specialist

Welcome back, 3rd grade students and families! My name is Mrs. Amanda Montgomery and I will be one of your child's Reading Specialists for this year. I am excited to start this school year by getting to know all of your child's strengths and then making a plan to help them grow as readers. Please do not hesitate to email me (amontgomery@marietta-city.k12.ga.us) or call, if you have any questions or concerns. This is going to be a great year of growth.

3rd grade will start their beginning of the year literacy assessments on August 4th. This process will take about 3 weeks to complete and it is very important for your child to be at school, ready to give their best! Thank you for all you do at home to support us here at school.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Amanda Montgomery
