Navigating Other People's Flipped Lid

• Remember, since everyone has a stress response system, we will all flip our lids: educators, parents, and children.

• Application at Home (if desired):

1. Be aware that the other person is in a threat response.

2. Stay regulated yourself. This is essential for staying in the part of the brain that supports healthy communication, problem solving, rational thinking, connection, empathy, compassion, etc.

3. Help the other person regulate or find someone who can. Once regulated, you can reconnect in relationship with that person, who can then talk through what happened, redo the behavior, and repair any ruptures.
