Progress Reports Released Friday

We are about halfway through our 2nd Marking Period at MS 50 and this Friday we will send out progress reports that list assignments for each class, including missing assignments. Progress reports are being sent out through Jupiter, our online grade book and messaging platform. Letters will be sent home with your students tomorrow (Tuesday 1/10) with your Jupiter password if you haven't logged in before.

If you forgot your password or need help logging in, please reach out to your student's homeroom teacher. You can also contact the main office if you need additional help.

Band and Music

Our 6th grade music classes are developing their percussive rhythm skills by practicing Latin percussion on the congas in preparation for a performance in March. Our 7th grade band students are continuing to refine the initial notes on their instruments in preparation for their performance at the upcoming Black History Month show. Our 8th grade band students are harnessing the momentum from their wildly successful Winter Arts Showcase performance to deepen and refine their instrumentation skills for multiple performances this spring.

Check out this short video from our Guitar Club's rehearsal last Friday for a taste of our music program's work.

Visual Art

In visual art, our 6th and 8th grade students are working on social justice themed protest posters in pencil. Students selected and researched a range of issues before deciding on what topic to develop their poster for. Our 7th grade students are merging science and art by creating biomes in a jar. Students are creating their own biome landscapes focusing on foreground, middle ground and background development techniques.

Theatre

In theatre, students are exploring playwriting by creating their own activist centered theater scenes. Students are studying the work of Agosto Boal and employing his social justice theater techniques in their work. In ELT, our students are currently rehearsing and designing for our springtime production of the Caribbean Odyssey musical, which will include student created poetry and song lyrics.

Fundraising Opportunities

Washer and Dryer

We are excited to have purchased a washer and dryer to be used by anyone in the MS 50 Community! We have approval to install these machines but there are significant installation costs involved to retrofit the parent room to accommodate these machines. If you are interested in donating or helping to plan fundraisers please email our PTA President Ms. Southerland or attend the fundraising meeting on January 18.

Student Snacks

A successful and popular fundraiser is our daily snack sales during student lunch periods! If you are able to donate snacks to be sold during this time, please bring them to school and drop them off in the main office for Ms. Edda.
