Happy New Year, Mindess Families!

We hope everyone enjoyed a restful and joyful holiday break and that the new year is off to a great start. It has been wonderful welcoming students back and seeing them reconnect with friends and routines.

The grass is finally strong enough for us to play on, and the fields are officially open! With the recent weather, students have been enjoying time outside during recess. Be sure to check out a photo in our highlights section below capturing some of this outdoor fun!

On Wednesday evening, I will be attending the School Committee meeting to present on our third graders becoming Stewards of the Land. This work connects directly to one of our school improvement goals, and I am excited to share with the broader community the meaningful learning experiences and fun our third graders have had through this project.

Kindergarten registration for the 2026–2027 school year will officially open on January 31, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Henry Warren Elementary School. Please use the link for additional details and registration information.

Our second Kids Night Out (KNO) is also approaching quickly! The next KNO will be held on February 6th. As a reminder, if you already signed the permission form at the beginning of the year, you do not need to sign it again—payment is all that is needed. Please see the information below for KNO details and instructions on how to submit payment.

Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership and support. We’re looking forward to another great week ahead!

Warmly,

Kate Altman

Principal

A Message from our Nurses! A Message from our Nurses!

Reminder from the Mindess Health Office

We have seen a significant increase in illnesses, including influenza and strep throat, this week.

To help keep our school community healthy, please check-in with your child each morning and keep your child home if they are showing signs of illness. Students should stay home if they have had any of the following symptoms in the last 24 hours:

  • Fever of 100.0°F or higher

  • Vomiting or diarrhea

  • Persistent cough or difficulty breathing

  • Sore throat, especially with fever

  • Rash accompanied by fever or behavior changes

  • Any illness that prevents them from participating comfortably in school activities

Please ensure your child is fever-free without medication and symptoms are improved for at least 24 hours before returning to school.

Thank you for helping us maintain a healthy environment for all students.

January SEL Lessons January SEL Lessons

January's SEL Theme of the month is Empathy. SEL lessons in the classroom focus on how to put yourself in other's shoes and recognize how they might be feeling. In third grade, kids are learning to look at facial expressions and body language to guess how someone might be feeling. In fourth grade, students are learning to related to the feelings of another by thinking about how they have felt in a similar situation. By fifth grade, students work on thinking not only about how someone else might be feeling, but also what they can do to improve situations around them. Our restorative circles this month focused on making New Year's Resolutions about classroom expectations- what they can do better to make school be successful for all. Empathy is one of the biggest skills we try to get all students to work on at this age.
