The CDA Family Buzz
Week of Monday, August 24 - Friday, August 28, 2026
Dear CDA Parents and Guardians,
As we begin our second full week of school, I want to thank each of you for your continued partnership and support.
We are also excited to welcome our K4 scholars to school and their families to our CDA family! Our youngest Eagles came ready to learn and have had a wonderful week. In fact, the parents seemed a little more nervous than our scholars! We look forward to watching them learn, grow, and soar throughout the year.
Please continue to help us by ensuring that your scholar:
- Arrives at school on time each day.
- Wears the correct uniform, including appropriate footwear.
- Follows all drop-off and pick-up procedures, which are designed to keep our scholars safe.
- Completes assignments and always gives their best effort.
As we continue on the road toward academic excellence, please monitor your scholar’s progress through PowerSchool and regular communication with their instructors.
Congratulations to our elementary scholars who received bicycles in recognition of their outstanding performance on last year’s SC READY assessments! These achievements reflect the hard work of our scholars and the commitment of their families and teachers.
As we embark on this school year, we ask for your steadfast commitment to our shared vision:
One School. One Mission. Unlimited Potential.
Yours in education,
Dr. Shawn Johnson
iReady
From August 26 through September 3, scholars will complete the i-Ready Diagnostic Assessments. These assessments will help our teachers identify each scholar’s strengths and areas for growth.
Please encourage your scholar to arrive on time, get plenty of rest, and do their very best.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support!
Lion's Den African American Male Mentorship Group Visitation
The Lion’s Den Mentorship Group will visit CDA on Friday, August 28, 2026. They will read to students in grades 2–5 at the elementary campus beginning at 12:30 p.m. and speak with middle school students about career readiness from 2:00–3:00 p.m.
Grading Policy
South Carolina has passed a new law prohibiting “grading floors” in public schools. This means teachers are not required to give a minimum grade for missing or incomplete work.
Grades will reflect actual student performance and completed work. At CDA, we will continue partnering with families to support student accountability, growth, and success.
