Happy Friday Panther families! It was another great week in the middle school.

For most of our students their state testing is complete! Thank you to everyone for their hard work and focus. These tests help us evaluate how we are doing as educators and they tell us how much progress your child has made throughout the year. Throughout the next few weeks we will be having M-STEP make up testing days for all of the students who might have missed a Wednesday.

Our 5th grade students will have their last day of M-STEP testing on Wednesday May 6, 2026. They will take the Science test around 9:00 am and have their Social Studies test around 11:30 am.

I would like to thank all of the students and staff for all the cards and well wishes on Principal's Day! I also extend that same sentiment to all of our staff for everything they do for our students and community. Next week is Teacher Appreciation, so please let your child's teacher know how much we appreciate them!

As always, I want to thank our students, staff, families, and community for all of their hard work and support! We are now in May and the race to the finish line has begun. For our track fans, this time of year is like the 400 meters. Technically it is a sprint, but it's tough and takes lots of perseverance and discipline. We will finish strong! Have a great weekend Panthers!

It's a great day to be a PANTHER!!!

Thank you,

Bobby Tillman

Celebrating Mr. Tillman on Principals’ Day Celebrating Mr. Tillman on Principals’ Day

Today, May 1, 2026, is National School Principals’ Day—a day to thank principals for all they do in schools.

We’re excited to give a big shout-out to our Delton Kellogg Middle School principal, Mr. Tillman. His dedication to students and staff helps create a school environment that is supportive, positive, and welcoming.

To celebrate, staff surprised him with a “Super Cool Principal” t-shirt and a card signed by everyone expressing their appreciation. During lunch, students also presented him with a signed paper filled with messages of appreciation.

We’re grateful for everything he does and lucky to have him leading our school. Thanks for all you do, Mr. Tillman—you rock! 🎉

On April 28th, our middle school celebrated a very special birthday—our daytime custodian, Mr. Claude Hard.

Claude helps keep our school clean, organized, and running smoothly every day, and both students and staff truly appreciate all he does.

To celebrate, students signed a large birthday card with kind messages, and some also contributed toward a gift card since Claude enjoys hunting and fishing.

During lunch, 7th grader Maci Osborne read a heartfelt letter to Mr. Hard in front of everyone, sharing how much he is valued and appreciated by our school community. To read her kind words that show just how much our students appreciate Claude, please see below.

“Hey everyone, can I have your attention for a minute?

I know lunch is usually loud and everyone’s talking, but I’m just asking for a little bit of your time—because this matters.

I want you to think about something for a second. Think about how many days we’ve walked into this school… how many mornings you’ve come in tired, thinking about tests, friends, sports, or whatever is going on in your life.

And every single one of those days, everything was already taken care of.

The floors were clean. The classrooms were ready. Everything just worked.

And most of us never stopped to ask why. We never really thought about the person behind all of it.

But there is someone. Mr. Claude.

And the thing is—it’s not just what he does. It’s who he is.

Because if you really think about it, you start to notice the small things. Like how he’s always outside in the morning saying “good morning” to students as they walk in. Some people smile back. Some people are too tired. Some people don’t even notice.

But he still says it. Every single day.

And that says everything.

Because it’s easy to be kind when people respond. It’s easy to be kind when people are paying attention. But it takes a different kind of person to keep showing that same kindness even when no one notices.

And then the day goes on.

Hundreds of us walk through the halls. Classrooms get messy. People leave things behind. The day ends, and we all go home without thinking twice.

But he doesn’t.

He cleans. He fixes. He takes care of everything so that the next morning, we can come back to a place that feels normal again.

Most of the time, nobody sees that part. Nobody thanks him for it in that moment.

But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t matter.

Because the truth is—it matters more than we realize.

It’s the reason this school feels put together. It’s the reason it feels welcoming. It’s the reason we can walk in every day and just focus on being students.

When you really think about it, imagine being the person who does all of that—showing up early, staying late if needed, doing the work that keeps everything running. Not for attention. Not for recognition. But just because you care.

That’s who Mr. Claude is.

Even if we don’t always say it, we feel it. We feel the difference he makes. We feel the kindness he brings. We feel that this school is better because he’s here.

So today isn’t just about a birthday.

It’s about making sure that, for once, he hears what people don’t always say out loud.

Mr. Claude… you matter here. More than you probably realize.

Thank you for every early morning. Thank you for every “good morning.” And thank you for everything you do—even the things we don’t always see.

This school wouldn’t feel the same without you.

Happy Birthday.”

It was a great way to celebrate someone who does so much for our school. Thanks again Claude, you truly are the heart and soul of our middle school.

Honoring Mr. Cooper Rhoda on National Therapy Animal Day Honoring Mr. Cooper Rhoda on National Therapy Animal Day

On Thursday, April 30, National Therapy Animal Day was recognized—a day created to honor therapy dogs and other therapy animals.

Mr. Cooper Rhoda brings so much comfort, joy, and calm to every middle school student he visits. Whether it’s a stressful day, a tough moment, or simply needing a friendly presence, he is always there with a wagging tail.

His visits help students feel more relaxed, supported, and ready to learn. He reminds everyone that sometimes the best kind of help doesn’t need words at all.

Thank you, Mr. Cooper Rhoda, for making such a positive difference in the lives of so many middle school kids! 💙

Battle of the Books: A Great Success Battle of the Books: A Great Success

Middle school’s Battle of the Books event took place today, and students did an outstanding job competing and showing their love of reading!

Battle of the Books is designed to encourage students to read quality literature, strengthen comprehension, and have fun with books. Students form teams, read from an approved list, and compete in quiz-style rounds where they identify titles and answer detailed questions about the stories.

A huge congratulations to all participating teams for their hard work and enthusiasm!

We also want to give a special shout-out to Samantha Wheeler, President of the Delton PTO, and Amber Martin (PSR) for collaborating and putting everything together. Your effort and support made this event possible, and it is very much appreciated.

Free Breakfast Reminder for DKMS Families Free Breakfast Reminder for DKMS Families

Here at DKMS, we’ve noticed that many students are not taking advantage of our free breakfast in the morning. Breakfast is an important part of the day—it helps students stay focused, energized, and ready to learn.

We encourage all students to start their day with a healthy breakfast at school, and we also ask parents to help remind and encourage their children to take advantage of this free opportunity. A good breakfast can make a big difference in how students feel and perform throughout the school day.
