We are reaching that magical part of the year when our kindergarteners are stringing words together and reading! This kiddo is reading in Spanish and blew me away late last week!

Good Afternoon Memorial Families,
It’s a cold start to the week! Looks like the January weather is finally here. I hope everyone enjoyed the snow day on Friday. It was much needed here, as we continue to manage lots of illness and absences of students and staff. Hopefully the coming week starts to see us coming out of this wave and back to a bit more normal. I have to commend your children, who have been outstanding about mask wearing and following health and safety protocols. I also need to give a very special shout out to our amazing school nurse, Mrs. Ryan, who continues to work day and night every day of the week to track down close contacts and try to nip community spread in the bud. If you see or speak with Mrs. Ryan, be sure to pass along your gratitude for her efforts with our school community.
It is hard to believe we are already beginning to plan for next year, but we are! We are holding our annual kindergarten information night on Thursday evening at 6:00pm. We had intended to hold this in person, but given the current situation with the pandemic, we have moved this to a virtual meeting. Please reach out to Mrs. Adams in the office for the Zoom link if you plan to attend. We also are holding our annual Spanish Immersion information night for incoming kindergarten families next Tuesday, 1/18 at 6:00pm, also virtually. That Zoom link is also available by reaching out to Mrs. Adams in the front office.
This coming Friday is an Early Release Day for students so that our teachers may participate in ongoing trainings. Our classroom teachers will continue to learn about best practices with implementation of our new math curriculum, Bridges, and other staff will be engaged in professional learning using our latest social emotional learning data from Panorama. As a reminder, on early release days dismissal begins at 12:10pm. If your child will be going home a different way than usual, please send a handwritten note to school that morning.
We are beginning to get excited about the Great Kindness Challenge happening at Memorial in under two weeks. We have some fun activities for all to promote kindness. Your children will be coming home with a kindness checklist and a challenge to complete as many of the acts of kindness on the checklist as possible in one week. I look forward to a positive week that will hopefully propel us into the remainder of the winter.
Have a wonderful week!
Warmly,
Wendy
