Greetings 6th grade families,
Back to School Week is finally here!!
This summer, I have been quite busy ensuring that all of our students' schedules and teacher schedules are accurate. I have received countless emails with change requests and schedule errors. I have worked with our bilingual department, Special Services team, and Individual Education Specialist coordinator to ensure that our legal requirements are met for each schedule. I appreciate your patience and understanding as I have been processing through your email requests. I can assure you that we are working with all teams to ensure the best schedule and support team is in place to support your student to have the best 6th grade year as possible.
Here is some information that I believe would be most useful to you as you entrust your 6th grader with us this week:
Our school day starts at 8:00 a.m. Your 6th grader can arrive at school as early as 7:30 a.m. Please ensure that they are not at school before then due to minimal adult supervision. Students that will like to eat breakfast at school need to enter through the red door behind the school on the blacktop.
On the first day of school, at 7:50 a.m., all 6th grade students will enter the building through the rear entrance (white doors located to the right of our cafeteria). I will be there to greet your child along with our 6th grade teacher team. They will escort your child to their homeroom. Their first period classroom will be their homeroom and their homeroom teacher. Please have your child log onto PowerSchool and take a picture of their schedule to save to their school iPad. Please take this screenshot the night before school starts to ensure that there are no schedule updates.
If your child arrives to school after 8:05 a.m., they must enter through the main office, located on Greenleaf St., where they will be directed where to go by a staff member.
Dismissal Time
Our day concludes at 3:05. Students will exit the building through the door that is closest to their assigned locker. 6th grade students' lockers will be on the 3rd floor. There are two car pickup locations on Elmwood or Sherman Ave. Communicate with your child your meeting spots if they will be a car rider.
iPad
Please make sure your child has logged into their iPad and is able to access PowerSchool to get their schedule. If you were not able to come to iPad pickup, our technology support person will be there on the first day of school to ensure that students receive their iPad. He will be coming to homerooms to give students their iPads.
Student School Supplies
School supplies will be distributed to students during their homerooms during the first week of school. Students will receive their PE uniforms and locker assignments as well. Please make sure that your child has a lock to use for their locker.
