The Sixth Scoop
Nichols News, 28th Edition
Dear Parents and Guardians,
It’s hard to believe we are in the final stretch of the school year—our last week before spring break is here, and we have just 10 weeks left of 6th grade! It feels like our students just started, yet they have already grown so much.
This month’s Town Hall had a lively, pep rally-style energy and featured students from each grade level. Our 6th-grade representatives from the Student Voice Committee shared exciting updates on our Nichols Period Equity Project. This initiative allows students to access necessary period supplies simply by scanning a QR code, which directs them to a classroom where supplies are available.
We also celebrated Black History Month with a powerful poem written and performed by a 7th-grade student, honoring her African American heritage. Additionally, five 8th-grade classrooms showcased their Greek House Projects, where each group created unique house names and traits that represented their values. Their presentations included dance, rap, cheers, and songs, bringing together both students and teachers in an exciting display of Nichols school spirit and community pride.
As we transition into spring, we recognize that staying focused on academics can become more challenging. Warmer weather and strengthened friendships make social time even more appealing. We truly appreciate your partnership in helping our students stay engaged, responsible, and always striving to be their best selves.
Thank you for your continued support, and we wish you a wonderful and restful spring break!
Best,
Spring Break Spirit Week
We love Spirit Week at Nichols, and we hope your child will join in the fun each day! This is a wonderful opportunity for students to showcase their creativity and school spirit.
We are especially excited for "Anything But a Backpack" Day, where students can think outside the box and bring their school supplies in unique, unconventional ways. "Tourist Thursday" will be another highlight—our students will be "traveling" everywhere from Paris to Puerto Rico with their fun and imaginative outfits!
Each day is about creativity, self-expression, and bringing positive energy to our school community. We encourage all students to participate and enjoy this exciting lead-up to spring break. Please make sure your child is at school each day so they don’t miss out on the Nichols "Springing into Spring Break" celebration!
Congrats to ETHS WildKits for winning 3rd place for the state championship!
The Justin Wynn 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament was an incredible event! It was amazing to see so many Nichols students competing, with some even making it to the championship game. Our school is home to some truly talented athletes, and it was inspiring to watch students play together as teammates and challenge each other as opponents.
Beyond the competition, the spirit of community was on full display. Students filled the stands, cheering each other on and showing their support throughout the tournament. The energy in the gym was electric!
A special highlight of the event was the appearance of the ETHS Wildkits, who recently secured 3rd place in the state. ETHS senior Kaiden Chatham addressed the crowd, expressing gratitude for the fans' unwavering support and high energy throughout the season. Every student in attendance was reminded that winning a state championship is within their reach with hard work and dedication.
To cap off the celebration, the Wildkits basketball team took photos with the 1st and 2nd place winners from the 3rd-5th grade and 6th-8th grade girls' divisions, creating a memorable moment for our young athletes.
This tournament was not just about basketball—it was a true celebration of teamwork, perseverance, and community spirit.
Nichols SY24-25 Yearbook Order - Deadline is April 11th!!
The Nichols PTA plays a vital role in making our school community strong, vibrant, and engaging. Thanks to their dedication, we’ve been able to host incredible events over the past few years, including:
- Back-to-School Night, a fun-filled celebration with jump houses, snacks, music, and a true sense of community.
- Family Fun Night, where families come together for an evening of activities and connection.
- The State of Nichols Address, providing important updates and insights about our school.
Beyond events, the PTA directly supports our students and teachers in meaningful ways. They provide grants that fund exciting learning opportunities and hands-on projects in our classrooms. They also go above and beyond to show appreciation for our teachers, ensuring they receive special gifts during Teacher Appreciation Week. This year, the PTA generously funded our math teachers' attendance at the NCTM Math Conference, allowing them to expand their expertise and bring back valuable knowledge for our students.
However, our current PTA leadership team members are primarily 7th and 8th grade parents—and with our 8th grade families moving on to ETHS next year, we need 6th grade parents to step up and get involved.
We need you to help keep our community strong! Your involvement ensures that Nichols continues to provide enriching experiences for students and essential support for teachers. It takes a village to educate and uplift the next generation.
If you're interested in joining the PTA leadership team and becoming an integral part of the Nichols Pride, please email nicholsmiddlepta@gmailo.com. Your time and commitment will make a lasting impact!
Thank you for being part of our Nichols community!
