Letter from the Director, Susan Gregurek
Happy Summer!
Get Ready for Summer Fun at the Library!
Are you excited for some summer adventures? The library is gearing up for our Summer Reading Program, which will take place from June 9-23 and July 7-27. This year's theme is “Color Our World,” celebrating art, music, poetry, and writing. All activities will be hosted at the library this summer, so please bear with us as we adjust our format due to limited space.
- The Beanstack app will go live on June 1st.
- Treasure chests are stocked, prize baskets are filling up, and we’re gathering coupons from local businesses, so prepare for the challenge to begin!
- We hope to offer special prizes for our champion readers throughout the summer!
If you’re interested in volunteering for our activities, feel free to stop by the library to complete a volunteer form.
Exciting Recognition and Community Support
We are thrilled to announce that the library has been recognized by the national data source Knowlogy. They will be featuring an article about our wellness groups, including Wellness Through Music Exploration, Calming Crafts, and the Caregiving and ASD Support Group. This marks our third national article highlighting the library's commitment to health, wellness, and social services in our community.
A special shout-out goes to our two Mental Health and Wellness Peer Support Specialists, Ailina Aponte and Gina Paja. Their dedication to the well-being of our community is truly commendable. Ailina focuses on parenting and families, while Gina supports seniors, veterans, grief counseling, and ASL assistance, positively impacting many lives in Jarrell.
Empowering Youth and Community Development
The Jarrell Community Library and Resource Center has partnered with Connected Nation and DigitalLift to train four teens to work in the library this summer. They will be available to assist with your technology needs, ranging from printing and video creation to computer usage. Additionally, we are collaborating with Texas Workforce Solutions to serve as a training facility for teen interns, aiding re-entry into the workforce and supporting the underemployed.
As you can see, the library is flourishing within our community. Although we may be a small nonprofit library, we are THRIVING IN 2025!
It truly takes a village to build a new library. Due to changes in the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences, grant funding for libraries has been halted. We welcome all donations and sponsorships. Please see the link below to contribute.
It Takes a Village to Support a Nonprofit Library.
IT TAKES A VILLAGE – to support and maintain a nonprofit library!
Remember – Jarrell Community Library and Resource Center is a nonprofit organization, and is funded only by YOUR donations, sponsorships, grants and fundraising events. No donation is too small; everything counts.
By the end of this year, we will be relocating to temporary building at new location, and planning and building a permanent library building. With the massive challenges we’re facing, your donations are more important than ever.
We have set up a donation site with Zeffy, a secure and free platform that processes donations via Stripe. You can submit a one-time donation or set up a recurring donation to support your local library.
Please share this link with employers, potential donors, family members and friends, and encourage them to support the library. Let’s all strive to ensure a bright future for JCLRC and the entire community.
Meet Suheiley Montanez, Our New Staff Member
We would like to welcome Suheiley to our team and our community. She will be our new Cataloging and Circulation Clerk. Suheiley has just arrived from Arkansas and would like to make some new friends, so stop by and introduce yourself. Her special gift is fluency in Spanish! She is already helping our Spanish speaking guests in the library.

Vacation Mindset: How to Actually Unwind and Recharge
Taking a vacation isn’t just about getting away—it’s about giving your mind a real break. But if you’re still thinking about work, checking emails, or glued to your phone, it’s hard to feel relaxed. Unwinding takes intention.
Start by letting go of the pressure to do it all. You don’t need a packed itinerary to have a great trip. Slow down. Sleep in. Sit by the pool. Watch the sunset. Let yourself enjoy the quiet moments without needing to fill every second.
Unplug when you can. Turn off notifications, put your phone away for a while, and be present. Whether it’s reading a book, taking a walk, or just lying in a hammock, give your brain permission to rest. You don’t have to be productive—you just have to be.
And don’t feel guilty for doing nothing. That’s the whole point. Rest helps you reset. When you stop rushing and start breathing, you give yourself the chance to actually recharge.
So next time you’re on vacation, make it about unwinding. Let go, slow down, and give your mind the break it deserves.

Homeschool Meetup
May Homeschool Meetup Recap: Making Music and Memories
Our May homeschool meetup was filled with creativity, learning, and a whole lot of rhythm! This month, we focused on the theme of music, and it was a joy to see the kids dive into hands-on activities that combined both science and art.
One of the highlights of our gathering was making homemade harmonicas. Using simple materials like craft sticks, rubber bands, and straws, each child was able to create their own mini instrument. It was a great opportunity to explore sound vibrations and see how different adjustments could change the pitch and tone. The best part? Watching the kids proudly play their creations and experiment with the sounds they could make.
As always, it was wonderful to connect with other homeschool families and watch our children engage, learn, and grow. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this month’s meetup such a success. We look forward to more adventures in learning next month!

Monthly Mindfulness with Libraries for Health
During the month of June, we are in observance of Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month. According to statistics compiled by the National Institute of Mental Health, 40% of men with reported mental illness received care compared to 52% of women with reported mental illness that received care. This is due to the stigma surrounding men needing help or sharing their mental health struggles. Society often sets expectations that men should be able to handle problems themselves, or even portray men as less if they do struggle with mental health issues. Therefore, men often feel alone and unable to ask for help when they need it.
We also recognize the following for the month:
LGBTQ Pride Awareness Month
National PTSD Awareness Month
Multiracial Heritage Week
International Day of Yoga
BUILDING COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS
How to Navigate LIFE...
During times of high stress, be easy on yourself and take steps to prevent stress. You know what works for you but be open to things that could help. Seek to forgive. Forgiving yourself, your loved one, the disease, or anyone/anything else you feel angry with can help our healing process.
You are not alone. Your feelings and emotions are validated. It's knowing how to navigate the journey towards recovery & resiliency.
