KEY NEWS FOR EXPLORER FAMILIES
We’ve reached the end of another busy but wonderful week. As promised, we have the results of the PTA Piggy Palooza event – they exceeded their fundraising goal of $14,000 by raising $15,705! The grade level with the most donations was kindergarten this year, and they got to celebrate with a sweet treat from Jeremiah’s Italian Ice during their recess today. As a bonus to all our families for the success, in next Friday's folder there will be a Jeremiah’s coupon for all students!
Northwood was also recently the recipient of an amazing donation from INMOTION Air. Mr. Bilderback, the owner, has donated TWO inflatable Gaga Pits to Northwood. He donated one last year, and offered us another jumbo sized one this year. Mr. Pearch and Mr. Konigsberg have already put the pit into action, and the students have been LOVING it! There was a lot of excitement in the gym this week. Check out the picture below of one of our kindergarten classes inside the jumbo pit.
Enjoy this last official weekend of summer!
With gratitude,
Heather Q. Rucker, principal
PIGGY PALOOZA SPARE CHANGE DRIVE & ENRICHMENT FUND RESULTS
A HUGE congratulations to our amazing Explorer community for making this year’s Piggy Palooza a tremendous success! Together, we raised an incredible $15,705 for the Enrichment Fund. Every penny truly makes a difference, and this year’s total will go a long way in supporting enrichment programs for all of our students.
A special shout-out goes to Kindergarten, who collected the most change of all the grades and earned themselves a Jeremiah’s Italian Ice Party! Way to go, Kindergarten Explorers!
And because every child helped make this fundraiser such a success, all Northwood students will receive a coupon for a FREE Jeremiah’s Italian Ice in their Friday folders, a sweet thank you for their school spirit and hard work!
An extra special thank-you to Jeremiah’s Italian Ice for sponsoring this event and treating all of our Explorers. We are so grateful for their generous support of Northwood!
Thank you to every student, family, staff member and business partner who participated, you’ve shown once again the power of our community when we come together for our kids.
SECOND GRADE EXPLORERS
Second grade has been working hard learning all about the states of matter. We have done experiments and worked through real world situations. We have watched as these states of matter changed forms through chemical changes and changed shapes through physical changes. The highlight was definitely looking at dry ice and watching vinegar and baking soda transform into a gas to fill a balloon.
THIRD GRADE EXPLORERS
Third Grade on/advanced math started their new unit on multiplication! To explore the multiplication strategy of equal groups, the students worked on a hands-on task where they had to use manipulatives to sort objects into equal groups. Other Northwood grade levels generously shared manipulatives, such as counting bears, rubber duckies, and marbles, with our students to use. The students had so much fun working together to sort objects into equal groups and learning about multiplication!
ART TO REMEMBER
Northwood is participating in a creative fundraiser with Art to Remember that allows you to purchase keepsake products customized with your child's art. There are over 60 products and many are less than $20. These make great gifts and a percentage of every purchase goes right back to the Northwood art program. CLICK HERE and search for your child's artwork. Then, have fun shopping! Thank you for supporting art class at Northwood!
HANDBOOK HIGHLIGHTS: EARLY CHECKOUT PROCEDURES
The school day ends at 2:20 pm. Please avoid early checkouts as instruction goes on until 2:15 pm. If your child must be checked out early, please do so before 2:00 pm. After 2:00 pm, students will be sent using normal dismissal procedures so as not to interfere with the school-wide dismissal process. We appreciate your cooperation and consideration.

GEORGIA READS DAY
Northwood is excited to celebrate Georgia Reads Day on Monday, September 22, 2025. It is a special day dedicated to sharing the joy of reading and helping our students grow into strong, confident readers. To mark the occasion, Mrs. Rucker will lead a special read-aloud, and each homeroom teacher will receive a copy of The Magician’s Hat, by Malcolm Mitchell, to add to their classroom library.
We’d also love to recognize our students’ reading adventures outside of school. Parents, if you'd like to participate, please share a photo of your child reading independently or with someone — or something — special, like a family member, pet, or favorite stuffed animal. These photos will be featured on our morning news show, Explorervision. Submit your Reading Photos Here!
Let’s celebrate the magic of reading—together!
AVID GOAL OF THE WEEK
Northwood is proud to be an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) school. AVID Elementary equips students with the foundational skills and mindset needed for future success. Our staff is focused on enhancing instructional consistency, fostering a college and career readiness mindset, increasing student engagement and building organizational and study skills.
As part of this, each week Northwood will be focused on one goal as a school. Be sure to ask your child about it!
Next week’s AVID goal is: My goal is to say thank you when given something and to say please when asking for something.

CAFETERIA NEWS
CAFE CELEBRATES HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH!
¡Hola students! In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re excited to introduce a delicious new item on the menu – Chipotle Chicken Quesadilla! Packed with flavor and served with fresh sides, it’s a taste of tradition you don’t want to miss. Be sure to grab yours in the cafeteria this week, on Wednesday, 9/24, and join us in celebrating Hispanic culture with every bite!
NEW CAFETERIA PRINCIPAL ACCOUNT FUND
This year, with the new lunch system, our school community has the capability to create a Cafeteria Principal Account Fund. This account would be used to fulfill any meal costs for students that reach an account balance of zero. We often have families and extended family members that ask if or how they can pay off lunch balances or support our students in this way, now the process of doing so is easy!
Should you be interested in adding to the Cafeteria Principal Account Fund, just send a check or cash to school in an envelope to Ms. Bethany Lopez, Cafeteria Manager and notate that the funds go to the Principal Fund. Please reach out to Ms. Lopez lopezb3@fultonschools.org if you have any questions.

PTA SPOTLIGHT: CELEBRATING ALLIE VAN SANT
We are thrilled to recognize Allie for her incredible leadership, creativity, and dedication to our Enrichment Fund this year.
Allie’s vision and hard work brought so much excitement to our community. She created a fun teaser for students, secured piggy suits and banks, trophies for recognition, and even partnered with a local business to help celebrate our winners. She went above and beyond by designing a website that showcased live tracking by grade level and overall progress, as well as highlighted our generous business partners.
But Allie didn’t stop there—she also volunteered to be a pig herself, to help collect donations and assist with counting funds, gathered volunteers, and kept everyone updated with results. From designing marketing materials to drafting communications and ensuring our Membership Toolkit and website stayed current, Allie’s energy and commitment made this initiative shine.
We are incredibly grateful for Allie’s leadership and accomplishments. Her efforts have made a lasting impact, and we are so excited about all she has achieved this year.
👏 Congratulations, Allie—and thank you for all you do for our Northwood PTA! 👏
