AUTISM AWARNESS:

I am reaching out to share some important information about the evolving makeup of our classrooms here at Hillcrest and how we can foster a supportive and inclusive environment for all our students. In recent years, there has been an increase in students with autism within public schools across the country, and our school is no exception. Today, most of our classrooms include students who are on the autism spectrum. Autism is a spectrum disorder, meaning it affects each child uniquely. Some students may face challenges with communication, social interactions, or emotional regulation, while others may show exceptional strengths in certain areas. Mackenzie Simpson, our ASD coach for our district, comes out a few times a week to help support our teachers in guiding our students who may need these supports. She provided this past week a presentation to a few of our classes to explain about autism and how to be a good friend. This diversity enriches our school community and offers all students opportunities to learn understanding, acceptance, and empathy. Our staff is trained to support students with autism through various strategies and interventions, but it’s natural that situations may arise in the classroom that reflect the unique needs of these students. You might notice instances where a child needs extra space, appears upset, or reacts to sensory stimuli differently than others. In some cases, these behaviors can be challenging, but they are a part of the learning process for all involved. We are committed to creating an environment where all students feel safe, valued, and included, and we appreciate your understanding as we work toward that goal together. We are also focused on educating all our students about the value of differences and the importance of kindness and respect. By teaching these qualities, we aim to equip students with the social and emotional skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.

Your Presence Matters--10 Days of Absence or Less for Success

The new school year is upon us and we are excited! The new year brings lots of opportunities for our students and their families. This year, we're placing a special emphasis on the power of consistent attendance. Why? Because we believe in unlocking every student's full potential, and that starts with being present. As a district, we will monitor attendance and notify parents/guardians on a consistent basis when students are absent.

Key benefits of daily attendance:

Stress reduction

Stronger connections with peers and teachers

Enhanced learning experiences

Let's work together to make daily school attendance a habit. Your child's success starts with showing up.

STUDENTS WHO ARE BRINGING TECHNOLOGY WITH THEM TO SCHOOL PLEASE REMEMBER:

All hardware capable of video or recording are prohibited during school hours due to FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) Law. e.g. cell phones, technology watches, ipads; Students who have these devices will be asked to place them in their lockers inside their backpacks.

PLEASE REMIND YOUR CHILD REGARDING--Restroom Etiquette at Hillcrest:

This was a major problem last week and its a reminder for ALL Young 5's/Kindergarten-Fourth Grade students!

Hello Husky Family,

We at Hillcrest have been working hard to help our huskies grow into responsible and respectful individuals. I will be visiting your child's class at the beginning of the school year, regarding how to utilize all areas of the building as it is not one individual utilizing the building but all staff and students as a whole. We kindly ask that you speak with your child regarding proper restroom etiquette. In order to continue maintaining restrooms in a sanitary condition, we would appreciate your support with this matter. As we get closer to colder temperatures let's work together to keep germs away. There will be consequences for those who intentionally misuse their restroom privileges. Thank you!--Principal Saad

Medication information from Nurse Mrs. Berry:

As we get back into the swing of things, I want to remind parents that students who need medications during school hours must have documentation on file that is signed by a physician. You can find all health related documents on the CSD website and I have linked some of them below. If your child has a health condition that I need to be aware of, please email me so I can update MiStar with the pertinent information. Let's have a safe and healthy school year!
