State Testing Approaching

The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress, also known as CAASPP testing, is scheduled to take place between April 13th through May 1st. This state mandated, annual test is given to all 3rd through 6th grade students. The tests are in the areas of English/Language Arts and Mathematics. 5th graders also take a test in Science.

Please keep in mind the following regarding the CAASPPs:

  • Our grade level teams build a testing schedule that utilizes the morning hours- when students are most rested and cognitively awake. For this reason, we ask that your family schedule appointments outside of the testing window, or at the very least, towards the end of the day.

  • There is no “prep” that students need to do for these tests. We would appreciate your help in ensuring your child gets a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast.

  • As a staff, we de-emphasize any pressure on the students in taking these tests. We want them to do their best, to put forth their best effort- but that’s really the extent of the messaging we give the kids. These tests are a way to show what students know and can be able to do as a whole. The results are used by our staff to determine changes to our instruction across the grade levels. The results do not factor into your child’s report card marks.

All 9 schools came together at Illuminate LASD for a fabulous celebration of our community. Students displayed their curiosity, creativity, and innovation through a variety of amazing projects.

A big THANK YOU to Grace Choi, Coordinator of Curriculum and Instruction, for leading this event! And thank you to those who’ve donated to LAEF this school year to help fund Grace as she develops curriculum, events, and resources for LASD's computer science program and more.

If you have yet-to-give this school year, donate to LAEF today.

A Brilliant Illuminate LASD A Brilliant Illuminate LASD

Illuminate LASD event last week was alive with curiosity, creativity, and collaboration. We were proud to see students confidently sharing their work, families engaging with ideas, and the community supporting learning in meaningful ways. We had 300 student projects across all 9 schools, over 600 students participating from all grade levels, and 8 community booths sharing inspiration.

Thank you to every student, teacher, volunteer, and family member, who helped plan, present, and cheer on our learners. Your energy and support made this event memorable and deeply rewarding.

Thank you for making Illuminate LASD a huge success!

Special thanks to Santa Rita's Illuminate Parent Liaison, Sherri Rose for supporting Santa Rita at Illuminate LASD.

We would need YOUR help to make this event successful!!

  • Dances. We have confirmed Mexican, Japanese, Taiwanese and Indian dances. If you would like to teach a dance, please contact Yang directly daisy_ly99@hotmail.com. Students will have the opportunity to sign up to learn a dance after spring break.

  • Country booths. They were a huge success last year and we would love to see more booths during the potluck/evening festival. To host a country booth, please sign up here. If you see a country/region you are interested already in, please contact the host directly to help out! A country booth can include posters of various facts about the country, display of artifacts, currency, traditional clothes, food, and anything interesting you would like to share! Please refer to these photos for country booth ideas.

  • Individual /small group cultural performances. (NEW this year!!) We invite all students and families to share a piece of their heritage. From singing a song, performing a dance to telling a story from their culture, to playing an instrument—every expression is welcome. We can’t wait to celebrate and discover all the amazing SR talents!. Please sign up here (2nd tab).

  • No Presentations. We are taking a break from presentations this year to encourage more parents to sign up for country booths.
