A Word From Our Principal~Mr. Agee
Pacific Intermediate families:
We are preparing to end another year, and we want to congratulate the students who will be moving on to Riverbend next year as well as our 5th grade students who are about to be promoted to 6th grade! This is an exceptionally exciting time as we are watching our students grow to the next part of their lives.
If you have received an academic warning letter for summer school or if your student has let their grades drop to where they have multiple F’s, final decisions about summer school or retention will be made the last week of May. Parents will be notified if your student is required to attend summer school in order to be promoted, or if they will be retained in their current grade.
We are looking forward to bringing back Olympic Day at Pacific Intermediate. The current scheduled date is May 19th. While we look forward to all of our students enjoying the day, students who receive in or out of school suspension may be prevented from participating during the day's events. We would like to encourage parents about the importance of maintaining student behavior as we close out the year.
By the time you are reading this, we will have begun MAP testing at Pacific Intermediate. We encourage you to make sure your students are rested when they come to school, and stress the importance of doing their best on the test. During the testing window which lasts until May 11th, students will be tested on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in the morning. If a student misses a test, they will be pulled by Ms. Diamond to make up the test. We greatly appreciate your partnership during this time, and this is a chance for us to show our community and state some of the great teaching and learning that occurs at Meramec Valley.
As an additional reminder, summer school begins June 1st. If you have not registered at this time, you may still sign up for the waiting list. Students on the waiting list will be called when and if a spot becomes available for them at summer school.
Finally, I would like to inform our families that we will have a new assistant principal next year at Pacific Intermediate. Alison McAtee will begin her role as an assistant principal in July. Mrs. McAtee is a multiple decade veteran of Meramec Valley, serving most recently as an instructional coach and a 6th grade ELA teacher. She will be a great addition to our staff, and we cannot wait for our students and parents to meet her.
Have an amazing summer and make some great memories!

We are finishing the year with poetry, text evidence, and paragraph writing. Ask your student what their favorite type of poem is. As you know, we are currently "Rocking the MAP test!" and showing what we learned in 5th grade. We have Field Day approaching on May 19th. Wishing all of our 5th grade families a wonderful summer break!
Science & Social Studies
5th grade Social Studies: Students are nearing the end of the school year and the standards that we cover in US history! We made it through WW1, The Roaring 20s and The Great Depression! Now, we will finish up the year by learning about WW2 and the effects on Americans.
5th grade Science: Students have been busy showing what they know on the MAP test! We will finish out our curriculum with our physical science unit and chemical reactions. We have a lot of hands-on learning in these last few weeks of school, so be sure to ask your child what they are doing in class!

The end of the school year is quickly approaching and that means that all library books will soon be due! All library books are due Friday, May 12th.
If a student has outstanding books or book fines from other schools in the MVR3 School District, it will affect their ability to checkout at other schools in the district. Book payments can be sent to Mrs. Henley at Pacific Intermediate, and she will forward books or payments to the library where the books originated from. Checks should be made out to the school where the fines are from. If you have any questions regarding book fines, feel free to contact Mrs. Henley at lhenley@mvr3.k12.mo.us

We are quickly wrapping up the year and have enjoyed having your child in class this year. All of us hope they had a great 6th-grade year. Have a great summer and we hope that everyone has a successful 7th-grade year.
Math:
As we wrap up the year, we will continue to practice our math skills. We will be learning different types of graphs while finishing our school year review. Please make sure your child is completing their assignments on a nightly basis. We have thoroughly enjoyed having your child in class this year.
Social Studies:
As we enter the last month of school we will be moving on from the end of Rome into the early Islamic Civilizations and the Civilizations of West Africa. Students will have a final test before the end of the year.
English:
Sixth-grade English students are currently working on using various print and internet sources to research an animal, person, or country. They will use the information they find to create a presentation to share with their classmates. We are focusing on not plagiarizing information, finding reliable sources, and citing sources. Next, students will be focusing on a Choose Your Own Adventure project where they can create multiple storylines for their classmates to follow.
Reading:
We have just finished our second novel of the school year A Long Way from Chicago. For the remainder of the year, we will be reading some of the remaining stories in our Collections textbook. These will include fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and media.
Science:
Students will wrap up the year with our Ecology unit. This unit will have more project-based assignments to finish out the year. Please continue to check SIS to make sure your student is completing their assignments. We had a fantastic year and enjoyed having your child in class this year.
