Dear Weymouth Public Schools Community,

As we head into the February winter break, I wanted to take a moment to express my appreciation for the invaluable contributions of our School Resource Officers (SROs). Moreover, with February 15th marking School Resource Officer Appreciation Day, it is fitting to extend our gratitude and recognition for their unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety and security of our educational community.

Our SROs, Officer Flanagan, Officer Sgambato, Officer Hamacher and Charlee, play a crucial role in fostering a safe and supportive learning environment for our students, faculty, and staff. They embody the values of service, integrity, and commitment, going above and beyond their call of duty to safeguard our schools and nurture positive relationships with students.

Their presence not only enhances security measures but also serves as a beacon of trust and support for our students. Through their proactive engagement, mentorship, and outreach efforts, they establish meaningful connections with our youth, offering guidance, encouragement, and a sense of security.

As we pause to recognize School Resource Officer Appreciation Day, let us take this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude to each and every SRO within our district. Their tireless efforts, professionalism, and compassion make a profound difference in the lives of our students and the broader school community.

We hope you enjoy February vacation with family and friends, and take time if you're able to rest and relax during the last full month of winter.

We look forward to welcoming our students back to school on Monday, February 26.

Warm regards,

Robert Wargo

Patriot Ledger High School Student of the Week

Congrats to the winner of the high school Student of the Week in The Patriot Ledger

The Patriot Ledger is pleased to announce the winner of our Student of the Week. Nominations come from high school staff members. But you, our readers, make the decision in our poll found at the bottom of this story. Look for our next poll Monday morning. We're proud to highlight the achievements of high school students. This feature is similar to our Athlete of the Week.

The winner this week is Cadence Murphy, a senior at Weymouth High School, is a compassionate, outgoing, and academically driven young woman. Cadence's relentless curiosity, pursuit of knowledge, and resilience in the face of adversity make her growth noteworthy. Cadence's academic achievements are impressive, as demonstrated by her AP scores and challenging course load. Cadence's ability to balance this with extracurricular activities, such as Model UN, Environmental Club, Varsity Tennis, World Language Society and National Honor Society speaks to her dedication and time management skills. She has also engaged in community service projects and part-time jobs. "Cadence has a strong sense of responsibility and independence, working multiple jobs to support herself and save for future expenses," her nomination says. Her involvement in volunteer work, such as the Red Cross Blood Drive and Old South Union Church Food Pantry Garden, showcases her compassionate and caring spirit.
