Miss. White

Hi There,

I am the High School Counselor. I work with 10-12 grades. Please reach out if you have any concerns.

We have implemented a peer to peer group called Rachel's Challenge, that will begin in October. We also have implemented TRAILS lessons once a month during Golden Eagle hour.

Rachel's Challenge

We are meeting once a month promoting positivity and kindness throughout the school, we will begin doing lunch activities during all lunches next week. This month we will be creating a "chain reaction" where students are able to write positive things they have seen throughout our school, or had happen to them. We will connect these chains to make one large chain, this will be a continued activity throughout the school year.

Coffee With The Counselor

Coffee With The Counselor will happen 4 times a year and we have different topics that will be discussed at each session. The first meeting is December 14, and the topic is Social Media and Cell Phone use.

My email is: Jessica White@myeagles.org Phone Number: 592-6634

Challenge Day

We are having Challenge Day on November 16th for 7th and 8th grade students. Challenge day promotes a positive community within the school. Challenge Day helps students stop teasing, violence and alienation. This day is a powerful experience that helps change the way people view each other. All students were sent home with a permission slip to attend. Let me know if you would like your student to attend.

Spots are still available.

Rachel's Challenge and TRAILS

We will be getting together a peer to peer pro kindness program called Rachel's Challenge. The students selected for Rachel's Challenge will meet this month to be trained on how to handle tough situations. Jessica White and I will be hosting this meeting.

Gratitude in November!

Hello! It is soon to be November!!! We have enjoyed a wonderfully colorful and warm October, and we celebrated Acceptance as our monthly character trait! I taught each grade level an anti-bullying lesson where we talked a lot about creating an accepting and kind culture here at CUES. We also showed our support for one of our own, Brantley, who is a 5th grade student and is battling Chordoma, a rare type of cancer for a child. Many staff and students bought Block for Brantley t-shirts to wear on specific days as well as donated money and gift cards. The kindness I have seen from students is amazing, like the 4th grade student who gave all his savings (many coins and some dollars in a baggie) for Brantley, or another 4th grade student who is making items and selling them, then she is giving the earnings to Brantley! It's incredible to see this type of sacrifice and effort from the students to help one another!

We will continue our character trait for the month of November as it is fitting-Gratitude! We will be looking at all the things that we are grateful for and acts of kindness and compassion we can do for others. I will be getting into the classrooms to do some activities/lessons around this idea as well as starting our career explorations in the upper grades.

Some important notes:

Conferences are coming soon-Wednesday, November 16th, 4-7 and Thursday, November 17th, 4-7. Teachers will be sending out information soon. The conferences will be scheduled and teachers will work with families if the above dates/times aren't possible. Please note-there will be FULL days of school on both conference days.

Also to note, St. Rita Church will not be providing Thanksgiving dinners this year as they have in the past. Families in need can contact their local church or call 211, which is an agency that provides various resources to families in need.

As always, please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns -krista.schatzle@myeagles.org or 592-2181.

Mindfulness Moment

Each month I am posting a Mindfulness Moment for students and their families to try at home. This month the mindfulness moment is Gratitude. Find a comfortable, quiet spot to lie down or sit. Focus on the many things you are grateful for. While concentrating on this, breath deeply in through your nose and out through your mouth. When breathing out, concentrate on relaxing your shoulders and all the muscles in your body. This is a great exercise to do, even if stressed about the Holidays approaching, because it reminds you that there are still things to be grateful for, such as friends, family, good health, a helping hand, kindness of strangers and friends alike and so much more. Simply reflecting for 3-5 minutes a day on the positive in your life and what you are thankful for improves your mood and over-all health. It is also helpful in forcing you to relax before bed, or simply to have some quiet positive time in your day. Enjoy!

HELLO LITTLE EAGLES!!

Happy Holiday's Eagle Families!

As we enter into the busy season of holiday gatherings, traditions and fun remember to leave room for downtime. Just as adults, children need time to reset now and then. Sometimes the holiday's can become overwhelming, as resilient as they are, children need us as the adults to help protect their boundaries and show understanding when things becoming to stimulating. Give you, and your family grace and build in those reset days as a family, and even one on one time with your little ones.

Each month at CES we have an assembly to celebrate our Character Trait of the Month trait. In November we practiced gratitude by having NED visit our school for a fun assembly discussing how we can be champions while being grateful for all the things in our lives. NED showed us some really awesome yo-yo tricks too!

December brings lots of fun things here at school. School wide we will be having holiday spirit dress up days, a sing-along, holiday parties, and our monthly Character Trait assembly. Watch your student(s) classroom & CES Facebook pages for important updates of all the fun to come!

You can reach me by email: ashley.phelps@myeagles.org or by calling 517-769-8557, feel free to leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as I am available.
