Letter from the Principal 7/10/26 Letter from the Principal 7/10/26

Hello Legacy Families!

I hope your summer is going well and everyone is enjoying their favorite summer activities. It was good to see many of you at our Literacy Night last night. I would like to give you some updates and information as we head into the last few weeks before school begins.

As you may have heard, Elizabeth School District will no longer be providing transportation for Legacy Academy students. We are grateful that busing was provided last year, but the service will not be available to Legacy families this coming school year. I know that this is disappointing to some as it was a tremendous help to our families who opted to use it. In the coming weeks, the Legacy team will be formalizing a system where families will be able to connect for ride sharing and carpooling. Our hope is to create something that will be beneficial to a family that may need help getting their children to school. Ride sharing or carpooling is something Legacy families have done for many years, even before district busing was provided last year. As another option, we are still offering before and after school care services for families. Additionally, Legacy will continue to have class field trips and activities through alternative transportation services. This does mean there may be a slight increase in cost, but we will do what we can to keep that cost to a minimum. It is still important to us as an educational institution that our students are still continuing to create real world connections and participate in experiential learning opportunities.

This week, we welcomed Dr. Libby Bailey to our administration team! Dr. Bailey is our new Elementary Assistant Principal. Mrs. Bengtsson, our former Elementary Assistant Principal, has moved to a new position in our school as the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. Dr. Bailey is an experienced educator with many years in school administration. We look forward to working with her on our team. Please be sure to say hello when you see her! We also have hired many new staff members that will be starting at Legacy in August. This includes teachers for additional classrooms. To date, we have filled all but two of our teaching positions and are currently conducting interviews with candidates for these positions. More about our new staff will be published in the coming weeks so stay tuned.

The last update for you is in regards to our building project. After a long, long wait, things are finally moving forward! Our team is currently interviewing general contractors for the project. As soon as there is a contractor in place, permitting can start, and then work on our building expansion can begin. We will be moving some of our Specials classrooms into portables as well as moving our existing portables to the other side of the building during construction. Some of this work has already started and the trench work for the portables was done in the last week on the south side. Please be patient and flexible throughout this coming school year as we will need to shift carpool traffic patterns and work with the construction teams on our property.

We have just over a month of summer left! Enjoy it, and we will see you soon. As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
