PTO ANNUAL MONSTER MASH AND Trunk or Treat Event-TONIGHT 10/12/18

We are looking forward to another successful and fun event tonight, Friday October 12th.

There are a few IMPORTANT things to go over in order to make tonight a big success. The event will start at 6:30 pm in the back parking lot of Albert Schweitzer. There is limited parking in the back lot and for the safety of our children that lot will be closed at 6:40 pm. Additional parking is available in front of the school and in the big parking lot next to Sandburg.

There will be no tickets sent home with students.Tickets will be available for pick up at the ticket booth located in the back lot. We will have tickets available for purchase at the door if you were not able to purchase them in advance. Donated items can be dropped off in the Main Office anytime tomorrow or can be brought directly to the event. During the Monster Mash, we will be selling baked goods for $.50 each and we will also be holding a 50/50 drawing.

The part of the event we are all looking forward to is the Trunk-or-Treat. This year we have over 25 families that volunteered to decorate their cars and hand out candy! In an effort to make sure all children can enjoy treats, we are asking that the children visit each car only once. Please remember to bring a trick or treat bag.

HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE !!

First School Meeting Highlights C.A.R.E.S. & Honors Custodians First School Meeting Highlights C.A.R.E.S. & Honors Custodians

Every 4-6 weeks, we get together as an entire school community for a School Meeting. At each School Meeting, we do the pledge together, honor someone in our school community, and have a focus topic we discuss as a school. Our September School Meeting honored our school custodians. Fourth grade students assisted in making rings with paper keys attached. On each key, a 4th grade student gave a reason on why the custodians are "The Key to Success" at our school. We thank them for all they do to help keep our building clean and safe for school each day!

The focus this school meeting was on our School-Wide Positive Behavior Support program called C.A.R.E.S. Students were reminded of what each letter in the acronym stands for. (Cooperation, Positive Attitude, Respect, Empathy, Safety) We also reviewed appropriate C.A.R.E.S. behaviors in our school. The kindergarten students and their teachers led us in a C.A.R.E.S. cheer, and Ms. Flynn helped lead the school in a Kahoot competition on the iPads. So much fun!

First Grade Math Night a Success!

First grade students and their families attended a math night with teachers! They created a math box filled with manipulatives and tools to assist with math concepts. Teachers then modeled activities to do with their new math supplies at home. Thank you to all students and parents who were able to attend the event.

Halloween Parade October 31st 2:00 PM

We will be having a Halloween Parade at Schweitzer Elementary School at 2:00 pm on October 31st. Parents will be invited to view the parade, take photos, and wave! We will be parading around the loop in front of Sandburg Middle School. In the event of rain, the afternoon parade will take place in the building for students and staff only.

With the ever-increasing daily theme of aggression and violence in our society, the Schweitzer staff would like to suggest that parents carefully monitor the costume choices worn by students this day. We would request that costume accessories which could be construed as weapons not be part of your child's costume choice. Save make-up, masks, and elaborate accessories for Halloween night.

In an effort to maintain a safe and secure atmosphere during our Halloween celebration, we ask the following:

  • Students are not permitted to go home to get ready for the parade and are not dismissed early directly following the parade.
  • No costumes may be worn to school on the bus.

In order to keep the day in proper perspective and in a secure and educational environment the above procedures are necessary. Thank you for your support and cooperation.

Some classrooms will be having classroom parties following the parade. If you plan on volunteering to help with a classroom party, you MUST have clearances and be on the list provided by the homeroom teacher to be a part of the celebration. Be sure to visit our district website for more information about obtaining volunteer clearances: https://www.neshaminy.org/domain/2376
