Brookdale Elementary
Let's Talk About the Details: School Logistics 25-26
School Hours
The school opens for ALL students at 8:50am (9:00am on Wednesdays). Supervision begins at that time. Please do not drop off or send students any earlier than 8:50, as there will not be supervision for them until this time. If your child is walking (or rolling) to school, please help them plan their timing accordingly. School dismisses at 3:35pm and our carline closes at 3:45pm.
*A wise parent once shared, if you get here by 9:00am, you're always on time! We thought this was great advice. Help your child have a successful start to their day by getting them to school on time!
Attendance Matters!
Student Attendance is critical to student success. Every absence counts towards a child’s attendance rate regardless of the reason.
If your student is absent:
Notify the school office.
ParentVUE (preferred) or via Phone
ParentVUE (24/7): “Report Absences”
Phone (24/7): 630-428-6810
Remember to provide a reason for the absence. It is required for state reporting and helps us to partner with you in ensuring regular attendance!
Your Child's Schedule
Food Service
Menus are available on school websites. Please note that due to ongoing supply chain issues, menus are subject to change. As much advance notice as possible will be provided to the affected schools.
If you believe your family may qualify for free or reduced priced meal benefits, please complete a Household Eligibility Application.
Please make sure your students have adequate funds on their PushCoin account. Even if your family receives free or reduced meals, a la carte items are “extras” that get charged to their account. You can deposit funds to their account at www.pushcoin.com. Setting up a PushCoin account and reviewing balances and purchases is at no extra cost.
The Indian Prairie School District Food Service section of the district's website is one stop for all of this information and more!
Birthdays at Brookdale
Celebrating the day our Bobcats were born is a big deal to us at Brookdale! We announce your child's name on the morning announcements, they get to come to the office for a birthday selfie with Dr. Schmid or Mrs. Stepper, and will receive a birthday surprise of their choosing (pencil, bracelet, button, etc.). We celebrate half birthdays for our summer birthdays and announce birthdays that fall during any "I miss you days" the Friday or last day of school prior to the birthday. Also, during their birthday month, don't miss their name on the monthly Brookdale slideshow that runs on our TV inside Door 1!
We do not allow any brithday treats/bags or invitations at school. We encourage our families to use the PTA School Directory (shared in late August/September each school year) to contact other families regarding your child's birthday celebration.
Students can also choose to have a birthday book purchased during their month for the LMC. The book will have their name in it and will have the first chance to read it before it goes into circulation!
Arrival/Dismissal
Staff are on supervision starting at 8:50am (9:00am on Wednesdays). This is also when doors will open and students can head to their classroom. Staff are on hand to guide and support students as well as Brookdale's Safety Patrol. School dismisses at 3:35pm and our carline closes at 3:45pm.
All students will enter through Door 9 and 10 (back of the school by blacktop/playground) and exit through their grade level door (Click link to see grade level door assignments on our map).
*Kindergarten Parents: Parents should come to door 10 if picking up the kindergartner as a walker. Carline kindergarten students will join the "carline train" and be supervised at the carline.
Students arrive and dismiss from school one of three ways:
1. Bus/Daycare Bus
2. Car
3. Walk
*You will share your dismissal plan with your classroom teacher at Meet and Greet.
Bus
All bus riders will arrive and dismiss through Door 2 (See linked map.).
How to find bus route – mobile app here and desktop here
Don't see the bus and want to know where it is? Check out this Tracking App:
MyStop Bus Tracking App
To increase the safety of our students and improve communication about their location while riding district-provided transportation, District 204 has technology called MyStop. The My Stop app is available to all District 204 families at no cost and allows parents and guardians to see an estimated time of arrival (ETA) for the bus arriving at their child’s specific bus stop.
MyStop:
- Allows parents/guardians and students to view the bus stop time, location, and projected arrival time. This feature is available during scheduled route times only.
- Updates approximately every 5 seconds and adjusts the scheduled arrival time as the bus is traveling along its route.
- Will show if the bus has already passed the assigned stop.
To learn how to access and use the MyStop Mobile App, view the My Stop User Guide.
Car
Students who arrive by car should follow the car rider visual map for lining up in the car line. The car line should not begin unloading until staff are on supervision at 8:50am (9:00am on Wednesdays).
Please ensure you pull all the way up and follow our staff's lead. All cars will stop, students unload on the curb side, and the process will continue. The carline will close at 3:45pm each day.
Below is a video recorded to help provide a visual of the car line procedures. Please follow all street signs identified by the City of Naperville.
Walker
If you are parking and walking to school using one of the side streets, please follow street signs and pay attention to curb markings. Police will ticket when parked illegally.
There are three crossing guards on duty in the community:
1. Across from the school on Redfield at the crosswalk
2. At the intersection of Bainbridge and Redfield
3. At the path to the school on Bainbridge
