ICYMI: Board Recognitions from Last Week's Meeting
HF’s International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IB CP) has officially earned approval status! This achievement places HF among a select group of schools worldwide offering both the Diploma Programme and the Career-related Programme. The designation aligns with HF’s 20 state-approved Career Pathways and expands equitable access to rigorous, high-quality programming for all HF students. A number of teachers and leaders were recognized for their work to achieve this status.
HF's Physical Education, Health, and Driver Education Department was recognized for earning the Illinois Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance PE Blue Ribbon School status! Department Lead Adam Vogel shared that HF students actively participate in physical education because of the staff's enthusiasm and dedication. The recognition represents a three-year effort to meet rigorous criteria, including submitting curriculum materials, budgets, and supporting documentation, as well as hosting a site visit that included interviews with board members and students and classroom observations of staff in action. HF is one of only a handful of schools in Illinois to receive this honor.
Board Member Dr. Smith Launches "Grow Your Own"
We celebrate HF Board Member Dr. Tamekia Smith for her inspiring leadership and commitment to creating pathways for the next generation of educators. Through her work at Waubonsee Community College, Dr. Smith helped launch the Grow Your Own program to encourage and support young Black men pursuing careers in education. Her work is helping ensure students see themselves reflected in classrooms while building stronger futures for schools and communities. We are proud to have a leader so dedicated to equity, opportunity and empowering others to make a difference.
Watch the story here with Dr. Smith and HF alum Jameon Wright, who is part of the program.
Board Member Dr. O’Quin Publishes "Making Space for Other Voices"
Congratulations to HF Board Member Dr. Camille O’Quin on the publication of her article, “Making Space for Other Voices,” in The ASHA LeaderLive. Dr. O’Quin continues to lead with purpose, advocacy and a commitment to elevating voices in education and communication sciences. We are proud to have leaders on the HF Board of Education who are making an impact not only in our community, but across their professions.
Congratulations, Dr. O’Quin, on this outstanding accomplishment!
Reminder: Updates to Summer School Schedule
*This change does NOT include summer driver education.*
To better support student learning and provide a more balanced summer experience, summer school will now run Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:25 p.m. This adjusted schedule allows students to enjoy three-day weekends each week, while still ensuring we fully cover all required course content and maintain the rigor and expectations necessary for success.
HF believes this change creates a strong balance—maximizing focused instructional time during the week and giving students extended time to rest, recharge, or manage other summer commitments. Please review your calendars and plan accordingly. Additional details and any program-specific information will be shared as we get closer to the start of summer school.
See full summer school details here. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Associate Principal Craig Fantin at craig.fantin@hf233.org. Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
Train Like a Viking: Sign Up for Summer Sports Camps
HF sports camp are back this summer: Recognizing that while skills and drills are critical to the improvement of an athlete, making the sport fun is essential to developing the passion for the game.
Updates to Summer Camps (accomodating the above summer school changes)
The start time for athletic summer camps will now be after 1:30 p.m. to ensure students have access to both opportunities. Those changes are also reflected in the Summer Camp Brochure below.
