Every Day Counts!

Dear BES Families,

We are hoping for a FULL week this week! We have a lot starting - our intervention groups will start this week and we are preparing for our next round of interim testing. Don't forget we have next Monday off due to Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. There's a lot to get done after missing so many days last week, so every day counts!

Our Parent Teacher Conferences are on February 5th and we will not have school that day. The sign-ups will open on Friday, January 17th. Another email with directions and information will be sent out on Friday.

We were unable to get grade cards printed and out this week. Please look for them to come home this week!

Power Hour begins on Monday! If your child was already attending, there is no need to sign-up again. If you need to change days of the week for attendance, please reach out to me. If you would like to sign your child up, you can do so here: Power Hour.

After School Clubs will begin January 21st. There are still some slots available! An email will go out this week with details on the clubs if you registered. If you do not hear from me by Friday, please reach out. If you would like to still sign-up, here is the link: After School Clubs

I want to give a huge thank you to our maintenance and transportation departments. They worked so hard last week and it was not easy getting that ice cleared. I also want to thank all of our families for your extra patience during drop-off and pick-up on Thursday. Having our regular routes packed with snow and ice made it more difficult to get everyone to their vehicles safely, but we did it and it was worth the extra time! Thank you so very much!

Have a wonderful week!

Our mindset for January is 100% Accountable. This mindset is perfect for kicking off a new year as it helps students understand that we are responsible for our own success and happiness. Students learn that we all have unique and wonderful ideas and to never let excuses or negative thoughts get in the way of new opportunities. This mindset teaches us that we must focus our energy on achieving our goals and that our lives are a journey paved with setbacks and celebrations that we learn from all along the way.

Attendance and School Calendars Attendance and School Calendars

Receive an Attendance Email from School?

If you receive an attendance letter from school, it is meant to inform you of your student's absences or tardies. This way you can also keep track of the days gone and how to plan ahead to

miss fewer days.

When Your Child Misses School:

One week gone is approximately 7.5 hours of instruction lost in reading and in math. That doesn't include the extra time teachers provide to check for understanding and mastery of concepts so they can move on to the next concept. We see some students really struggle to get caught back up when they've missed extended time. We attempt to make it up during school hours, but your child may be required to stay after school to work with teachers or our tutors.

Please take note of our school calendars when planning your family's vacations.

Attendance is a focus at BES and we want your children at school! It can be very difficult for students to get caught up sometimes when they miss for extended periods of time. For example, when a student misses a week of school, that is up to 450 minutes of math instruction they are missing!

If your family does have a trip planned, we do not provide lessons or materials ahead of those trips. Teachers will work with you to schedule times when your student can be given that instruction and guided work time to ensure mastery of skills. This may have to happen before or after school, but we will also try to work during the school day as well.

GREAT school habits now help prepare students for future success!
