KMS NEWSLETTER

Dear KMS Families,
We want to keep you informed about our upcoming state assessments for students in grades 6-8. These assessments help us understand student progress and improve learning experiences.
Here’s what you need to know:
- 8th-grade students will take the AK Science Assessment during their regular science classes on April 1, 2, 3, & 7.
- All students (grades 6-8) will take the AK STAR English Language Arts (ELA) Assessment on April 9 & 10.
- All students (grades 6-8) will take the AK STAR Math Assessment on April 15 & 16.
To help your child do their best, please make sure they get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and bring their fully charged iPad to school on testing days.
During the ELA and Math testing days, Kodiak Middle School will follow an adjusted bell schedule. Please check the attached schedule to ensure part-time students know when to arrive for their classes.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to our assistant principal, Mrs. Judith Bruns, in the main office.
Thank you for your support in helping our students succeed!
Rena Rankin, Principal
Judith Bruns, Assistant Principal

HELP STOCK OUR NEW KMS FOOD PANTRY
We’re excited to share that our school has started a food pantry to support students and families in need — and we could use your help!
We’re currently collecting non-perishable items such as:
- Rice, ramen, soups, mac & cheese
- Canned goods (Spam, tuna, chicken)
- Oatmeal, cereal, shelf-stable milk
- Pasta and pasta sauce
- Peanut butter, jelly
- Bread, crackers, and instant mashed potatoes
If you'd like to donate fresh items like fruit, vegetables, or eggs, we kindly ask that those be dropped off on Fridays before noon so we can store them properly.
Thank you for supporting our school community!
