News from Candice News from Candice

Happy Fall and cooler weather to all who celebrate! Cooler weather means warmer clothes. We do go outside for recess everyday if it is over 20°, so please make sure your little ones (and big ones) have coats, gloves, hats, etc. so that recess is still fun!

After-School Playtime

I truly love to see our families outside enjoying the front lawn and chatting with each other! I have two requests:

  1. Please keep students out of the landscaping along the front side of the building. We want to protect this area to keep our school looking nice. Additionally, there are creepy crawlies and other critters that might be unsafe.

  2. Last week, I witnessed a lot of pushing, shoving and hitting with a large group. I would ask that they follow the same rules of school while playing together out on the lawn. This will help keep it consistent and keep everyone safe. Thanks so much!!

New Literacy Specialist at CME!

Thanks to our October count numbers exceeding enrollment projections, we were allocated additional funding for the school year. To put these funds straight to work in our classrooms, we are expanding our literacy support by adding a part-time Literacy Specialist for grades 3–5, while the amazing Mrs. Stinnett continues her targeted literacy work with our K–2 students.

I am thrilled to announce that Mrs. Michele Varner will be taking on this new role! Many of you know Michele as a trusted, regular substitute teacher in our building. With her strong background as a former elementary educator, she is a natural fit for our instruction team and begins on November 16th. Welcome, Michele!

SAC Meeting November 9th

We will have our School Accountability Committee meeting on Monday from 4:00-6:00. I will be discussing the following topics, so feel free to drop in and learn more about CME. Snacks are provided!

  • PLC Friday Late Start - Essential Learning Target Plan (ELTP)

  • Enrollment Numbers (October Count) & new part time literacy specialist (more detail)

  • Nov. 6 PD Day

  • Safety Update

  • STEM Lab Update

With gratitude,

Candice

VETERAN'S DAY -

On November 11th, we are excited to celebrate Veterans Day, a time when we honor the selfless dedication of the people who protect our freedoms. It is a heartfelt tradition here at CME to bring our community together for this important celebration.

This year, we are changing things up a bit! We would like to warmly invite any family member who is a Veteran to join us for a whole-school special ceremony on November 11th to honor their service. It’s a meaningful way for our children to personally connect with the sacrifices made for our country. The assembly will be held at 8:45 am on the 11th. We are looking forward to seeing you all here in the gym!!

We also want to create a stunning display of appreciation. In today's email you will find a form to spotlight a Veteran in your family (past or present). Please fill it out and include a copy of a photograph (no originals please) so we can publicly honor their service.

HALLOWEEN CANDY -

If you don't know what to do with your extra Halloween candy! Copper Mesa would love to take that off your hands! Thank you!

ORIGINAL WORKS ART FUNDRAISER!

We’re excited to announce that we will be partnering with Original Works this Fall, the original art-based fundraising company!

Students created artwork at school and you can have your child’s art reproduced onto a variety of keepsake products ranging from Mugs to Magnets.

Ordering will be done online through Nov. 17, 2026.

The products make great holiday gifts and birthday gifts for family members as well as wonderful keepsakes for the students.

Orders will arrive at school in early December.

And the icing on the cake is our school earns a profit from every order placed!

Complete details on how to order and a preview of your students artwork will be sent home today in Thursday folders.

Thank you for supporting this unique and creative program!

Please reach out to Mrs. Burke at kburke@dcsdk12.org with any questions.
