Homework
Monthly Reading logs are attached in your students Take Home Folder. Each night that they read they should record the amount of minutes and get a parent/guardian to initial.
Spelling words come home on Monday. Students should complete one page per night to practice their words.
For Math there will be problems that are circled that students must do, they are welcome to do more if they would like or if you want them to. But those are the only required problems for the night.
Each night your student should bring home their yellow folder. Please make sure they are emptying the side that says Keep at Home.

Academics
Literacy
This week, we read a new story called Animal Habitats Around the World and learned some new vocabulary words. We explored the different weather, seasons, plants, and animals found in habitats around the world. We also practiced identifying the main topic and key details in a text.
Next week, we will continue learning with our Plants and Animals magazine and read a fiction story called Filiberto in the Valley.
This week our Phonics focus was open and closed syllables. We searched for these patterns in our reading and practiced reading words that also fit these patterns. Next week we will focus on Long a spelling patterns. (a, ai, ea, ay, a_e).
Writing
Math
This week, we have been learning how to solve one-step word problems. Students practiced carefully reading each problem, annotating it to identify the important information, and determining what the problem is asking them to find. Students are building their confidence in explaining their thinking and showing how they know their answer makes sense.
Next week, we will begin learning about picture graphs and bar graphs. Students will practice reading and interpreting data, comparing information, and using graphs to answer questions. We will also work on creating and analyzing our own graphs!
