Superintendent's Monthly Update
January 27, 2026
Monthly Message
Dear Parents,
I hope you have enjoyed the slower pace that winter weather has brought to us over the last few days. I truly appreciate Mr. Lannen and our buildings & grounds crew for working overtime to dig out our schools. It looks like we will continue to see frigid temperatures and possibly more snow in the next week. As a reminder, please click HERE to view the BASD Guidelines for cancellations. Please know that every effort is made to keep students and staff safe, while maintaining continuity of instruction.
At the January 20th meeting, the Board of Directors approved the 2026-2027 District Calendar. Click HERE to see it.
Thank you to all the parents who spoke at the January 20th Board of Directors meeting about potential redistricting. Your input was essential in the process of making a decision on this complex issue. Your voice matters. Your child matters.
Sincerely,
Dr. R.

Portrait of a Graduate
- What are the hopes, dreams, and aspirations that our community has for our graduates?
- What are the skills and mindsets that our students need for success in this rapidly changing and complex world?
- What are the implications for the design of the learning experiences we provide in our schools?
To make this a truly collaborative process, we invite all staff, students, and parents to participate in an engagement meeting on Thursday, February 19th from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at BAHS. If you are interested in attending, please let me know by completing this short FORM by February 1st. All students under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
New School Update
As we approach the completion of the new school, more details about the transition will be shared in the next few weeks and months. If you have questions, please send them to publiccomment@basd.net. Responses will be listed on the School Closure Hub webpage.
Principals are now working to build student rosters based on combing the current rosters from Bellefonte Elementary and Benner Elementary Schools. If you would like to request that your child attend Pleasant Gap Elementary School instead of the new Bellefonte Elementary School, click HERE to access a Non-Prescribed School Request Form.
