BCPS to Serve Free Summer Meals for Kids 18 years and Under Through Summer BreakSpot Program
Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) is helping ensure children and teens have access to nutritious meals this summer through Florida’s Summer BreakSpot program.
Beginning Monday, June 8, 2026, free breakfasts, lunches, snacks and suppers will be available at 96 BCPS school sites for all children and teens 18 years of age and younger while school is out of session.
Meals are provided at no cost to families, helping bridge the nutrition gap when school cafeterias are closed for summer break. No registration, application or proof of income is required.
Meal service dates, times and offerings vary by location. Meals must be consumed on-site, and service is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
“Broward County Public Schools is committed to supporting the health and well-being of our students and families year-round,” said Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn. “Through Summer BreakSpot, we are proud to offer nutritious meals that help children stay fueled, active and ready to learn throughout the summer.”
Families can find participating locations and meal service schedules by:

Students are supervised by experienced, state-certified counselors who deliver age-appropriate activities and meaningful learning opportunities.
Our after-school counselors and supervisors collaborate closely with school staff to reinforce the positive, respectful behaviors encouraged throughout the school day.
This innovative program provides a structured, safe, and supportive environment for students during after-school hours. It goes beyond simply offering a place to stay—creating an engaging space where students can explore new interests, learn, and grow.
Participants enjoy a diverse range of activities designed to spark creativity, promote academic success, and strengthen both motor and social skills, helping each student develop in a well-rounded and meaningful way.
To help prevent summer learning loss, we encourage every student to complete their Summer Learning Calendar this June and July. Your child brought home a printed calendar tailored to their rising grade level. Each day includes a short practice activity, and when it's done, a parent or guardian initials that day's box to earn a paw print. IXL Learning Skill Plans are accessible under the "Learning" tab on the IXL Learning platform.
Display these documents somewhere visible at home to help your child stay on track!
Students who return a completed, initialed calendar during the first
week of school in August will be celebrated with a special reward!
Students entering public/charter schools must be fully vaccinated. An official immunization record (Form DH 680) or a valid medical/temporary exemption must be provided by a licensed healthcare provider and kept on file at our school. Students may also qualify for a religious exemption using Form DH 681.
If you have not already done so, please visit your child’s healthcare provider or pediatrician to ensure all required vaccinations are up to date and to obtain the appropriate documentation.
Please note: Proof of vaccination or an approved exemption must be submitted and on file at your child’s school in order for them to attend.
In addition to the required vaccines for kindergarten through twelfth grade, students entering or attending 7th grade must also meet the following requirement:
- One (1) dose of the Tetanus-Diphtheria-Pertussis (Tdap) vaccine is required for students in grades 7–12.
- An updated DH 680 immunization form, reflecting the Tdap vaccine, must be obtained from a licensed healthcare provider and submitted to the school.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this important requirement.
Uniforms are required and our dress code is enforced.
To ensure equity and safety, school uniforms must be purchased from iUniforms, our only approved uniform vendor.
Students are required to wear the Franklin Academy polo shirt and navy bottoms, both with the official school logo.
