Good Afternoon Memorial Families,
Dare I predict that we will make it through the entire month of December without a snow day or delay? While we all love a good, old-fashioned snow day, the consistency with school has been a true gift for us this holiday season. We are seeing such tremendous progress with our students in all areas and feel so blessed to have been able to have a more consistent year so far with everyone.
A few pieces of information for you to think about this week:
1. Thursday is a half day of school. We will begin dismissal at about 12:10pm, and there will be no after school programming that day.
2. We are also having a whole school pajama day on Thursday. Feel free to allow your child to dress in their coziest pajamas. Please do not send your child to school in slippers, though. They need shoes to navigate through the building.
3. Our teachers are being encouraged to wear Ugly Sweaters or festive clothing on Wednesday. I invite your child to join in if they would like.
4. On Wednesday afternoon at 2:15pm, the Nipmuc band will be performing a holiday concert for us here at Memorial. Our fourth graders will be attending in person in the cafeteria and the remainder of the school will be joining in over Zoom in their classrooms.
And finally, at last week's All School Meeting, we reviewed the R in RISE: Respect. Students listened to a story titled Teach Your Dragon Respect. We learned about alternative ways to act and speak when we feel a bit disrespectful that would be kinder. We also watched a slideshow of our fourth graders modeling respect around the building and reviewed the expected behaviors from the RISE matrix. I know I've attached it before, but see below for a review of the matrix.
I wish all of our Memorial families a wonderful vacation, a Merry Christmas, and a joyous Kwanzaa to those who celebrate, and a very Happy New Year. Here's hoping 2022 brings us all health and happiness!
Warmly,
Wendy
