Dear STOC Family,
St. Teresa of Calcutta continues to be a vibrant, active, and faith-filled community. As we enter February, we look forward to many opportunities to celebrate, reflect, grow, and pray together.
This month, our students will deepen their learning during Black History Month, share kindness as we honour St. Valentine’s Day, and begin preparing our hearts for the Lenten Season.
We are also excited to celebrate student achievements during our parent/guardian–student conferences on February 12 and 13, where we will reflect on Term One successes and set goals for the months ahead.
As we focus on the Virtue of Respect, we pause to recognize and extend our sincere gratitude to:
- Our Students: For their enthusiasm, joy, hard work, determination, and perseverance.
- Our Parents and Families: For supporting learning at home, communicating with staff, encouraging adherence to our Catholic Code of Conduct, reporting absences, and helping strengthen the home–school partnership.
- Our Teaching Staff: For their ongoing dedication, care, and commitment to student learning, well-being, and a safe, inclusive Catholic environment.
- Our Office Staff: For meeting the daily needs of students, families, and staff, and helping ensure the smooth and safe operation of our school.
- Our Custodial Team: For their continuous efforts to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming school environment.
- Our Superintendent, Dulcie Belchior: For her ongoing leadership, guidance, and support.
- Our Catholic School Council: For their dedication to supporting initiatives that enrich student learning and strengthen our school community.
- Our Parish Team: For their spiritual guidance and the celebrations, visits, and faith experiences they share with us.
On behalf of the staff of St. Teresa of Calcutta, I wish you a joyful and blessed month ahead.
Mrs. Maddison
Principal
February is Black History Month and is acknowledged widely as a month devoted to the celebration of Black stories, contributions, and achievements. "During Black History Month, people in Canada celebrate the many achievements and contributions of Black Canadians and their communities who, throughout history, have done so much to make Canada a culturally diverse, compassionate, and prosperous country" (Government of Canada). As a Catholic community, we are called to live in solidarity. Solidarity requires that we learn from, and about our families in Christ.
STOC Students from all grades will be sharing insights and information with the school during announcements.

Fire Drills/Lock Down Procedures
During the school year we will be rehearsing and will continue to rehearse with students a number of emergency response situations including lock down and fire drills.
All schools are required by Board policy to practice these procedures throughout the year. We have these ‘practice drills’ for precautionary purposes only so that in the event of an actual emergency, students will be prepared to respond in a safe and responsible manner.
We will also be practicing a Lock Down Drill. During this drill, the outer doors will be locked and the office will be unavailable during the time of the drill. No one will be allowed to enter or exit during the drill while the emergency protocol is being followed. The day will continue as normal following the drill. Thank you for your patience.
Sign In/Out Book
Normally before leaving school early during the day, children must be signed out from the school office by a parent/guardian. If your child needs to leave school during the school day, you must notify the classroom teacher or the office in writing/via email/by phone. Once you arrive, please ring the doorbell and we will arrange to have your child brought to you at the front door.
Medication
On occasion, the school is asked to store and/or give medication to students. Medication of any kind cannot be stored on school property without the proper medical forms on file.
1. A completed form must accompany each request for medication to be stored by the school.
2. School personnel will not assume responsibility for the administration of any medication.
3. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to monitor the quantity of medication stored by the school.
4. Please let the office know if you require Storage of Medication Forms so they can be forwarded to you.

Concussion Protocol
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board has developed a Concussion Policy and Guidelines for students who have been diagnosed with a concussion by either a medical doctor or nurse practitioner. School staff cannot diagnose a concussion. Anytime a student reports to the office with a head injury, the parent/guardian will be contacted and the incident will be entered into the school’s “Documentation of Head Injuries” log. This is precautionary only, and we ask that you check your child when he/she gets home for any signs of a concussion or illness. A brochure containing information about Concussions is provided upon pick up of the student or when they go home for the day. This is a precautionary measure and for information purposes.
