A Message from SHS Administration
Welcome back!
We are looking forward to welcoming back all of our SHS Hornets tomorrow, August 26!
Be sure to read this newsletter in its entirety as there are many pieces of information that will be useful for this first week of school.
School doors open at 7am, and the bell will ring at 7:50am. Link leaders and staff will have purple shirts on tomorrow, be sure to ask for help if you need it!
We will run the Hornet Time schedule all week so administration can hold class meetings with students.
Drop off loops
Please follow the yellow arrows for our student drop-off loops. Red "X" and blue "*" areas are not for pick-up or drop off UNLESS you are dropping off a student with special needs.
Please contact school administration if you have any questions.
Student Parking Areas
Students should park in lots with a green checkmark. Students who park in areas with a red x will be asked to move their vehicles.
Parking passes are available here: SHS Parking | Saline Area Schools (revtrak.net)
*REMINDER* Late arrival/early pick up Location
The bell rings and school begins at 7:50 AM. All entrances will be locked at this time and throughout the school day. If a student is arriving late/being dropped off (after 7:50 AM) or needs to leave early/be picked up early (during the school day/before 2:44 PM), please use Door 5 on the east side of the building near the auditorium. Students should always sign in if they are arriving at school after 7:50 AM and sign out if they need to leave before the end of the day at our attendance desk, located at Door 5 on the east side of the building.
*NEW* Student Absence Reporting Procedures @ SHS
NEW* Student Absence Reporting ProcEDURES for 2024-2025
We are excited to announce a new process for reporting student absences, late arrivals, and early dismissals at Saline High School. You will have the ability to report these directly through the PowerSchool Parent Portal (no more online google forms). This change is designed to streamline communication and make it more convenient for you to keep us informed about your student's attendance. The portal will also track student absence trends and totals and present notifications regarding attendance.
Click here for step-by-step instructions on how to report Full Day Absences, Late Arrivals and Early Dismissals through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. You must have a PowerSchool Parent Portal Account to access this. Please click here to learn how to set up your PowerSchool Parent Portal Account.
Thank you for your continued partnership as we work together to enhance our absence reporting process!

SCHEDULE CHANGE POLICY - 2024-25
Counselors will be meeting with students to make changes to their schedules on August 19, 20, 26, 27, 28, 29, and September 2. This is the schedule change window for the entire year. We will not be making additional schedule changes during the year unless a student is leveling down from an AP or Honors class. There will not be additional schedule change windows for trimesters 2 and 3.
Students wishing to try to make a change to their schedule will need to make an appointment through your counselor’s QR code on your schedule for August 19 and 20, and then through Mrs. Fosdick (fosdickp1@salineschools.org) for the remaining schedule change dates.
Students will be granted 1 schedule change appointment. During this appointment, the student can look at changing multiple classes for the year, but will only be permitted 1 appointment.
Due to the volume of students wishing to make a schedule change there is simply not enough time to accommodate everyone prior to the school year beginning. Our teachers are aware that schedule changes will be made for 5 days once the school year begins and work to make sure students aren’t behind.
Requests for teacher changes may be able to be accommodated, but only if a student is going from a larger class to a smaller class.
No additional online classes will be added for the 2024-25 school year
Counselors divided by first letter(s) of student last name:
A-D: Ms. Sullivan: sullivam4@salineschools.org
E-K: Mr. Murphy: murphyj1@salineschools.org
L-Rob: Mr. Bruckman: bruckmab@salineschools.org
Roc-Z: Ms. Perales: peralesa1@salineschools.org
When there are presentations, surveys, or materials shown during Hornet Time, we will provide them the week before when possible.
Students will attend Advisory (Hornet Time) every day during the first week of the school year. This allows for staff to reinforce expectations and for administration to hold a class meeting with each group.
Students in an SWWC class during 2nd hour will have Advisory with their 2nd hour teacher. They will not have a "Hornet Time" listed on their schedule.
The "Be Good People" curriculum is referenced often during Advisory this week and will be throughout the year. Information on this curriculum can be found here: Life Skills - 9-12 Core Edition (google.com)
9th grade: Meet Our Hornet Time, Ideas for connecting, "What Every Freshman Should Know" with our Link Leaders
Grades 10-12: SHS Handbook Review, Setting Goals lesson from Be Good People, Organizing Tasks and Planning Ahead lesson from Be Good People.
The first PTO meeting of the year takes place this Wednesday, August 28 from 7-8pm in the SHS Media Center.
