Principal's Message - Mr. Stoney

Dear Mary M. Knight Families and Community Members,

As we step into the week of October 7th, I'm filled with pride reflecting on the incredible school spirit and community engagement we witnessed during our recent Homecoming celebrations. Our OWLS truly embodied our mission of becoming successful citizens through their enthusiastic participation in the spirit week activities, from the creative themed dress-up days to the competitive hall decorations. The energy and unity displayed throughout the week culminated in our thrilling homecoming game and dance, creating lasting memories for our students.

I'd like to extend a special congratulations to our 2024-25 Homecoming Court royalty. These students exemplify the leadership and positive influence we strive to nurture at Mary M. Knight.

Last week also saw our CTE students participating in the Try-A-Trade event at Satsop Development Park. This hands-on experience provided valuable insights into the construction industry, aligning perfectly with our vision of enriching our students' lives and preparing them for future success.

Looking ahead, we have an exciting week filled with activities. I encourage our community to support our student-athletes at the upcoming volleyball, flag football, and football games. Don't forget about the Teen Game Night at Matlock Community Church on Monday - it's a great opportunity for our youth to connect outside of school hours.

Lastly, I'm thrilled to announce the launch of our new Mary M. Knight District App. This tool will help keep our community connected and informed about all things MMK. I encourage everyone to download it and stay up-to-date with school news and events.

As we continue to focus on our theme of "Nurturing Resilience, Inspiring Excellence," I'm proud to see our students and staff embodying the GRIT (Growth, Resilience, Intensity, and Tenacity) we value so highly. The positive referrals and weekly GRIT awards are a testament to the outstanding character of our OWLS.

Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to making Mary M. Knight a community of learners and leaders. Here's to another great week of growth and achievement!

Go OWLS!

MMK Students Attend CTE Try-A-Trade Event

Lask week, Mrs. Cole's construction class, and Mr. Plaisance's metal shop class, students participated in the Try-A-Trade event at the Satsop Development Park. Our students were able to operate equipment, use an equipment simulator, build projects, compete in hands-on activities, and learn about the many opportunities within the construction industry. This awesome event was sponsored by ESD 113, the NW Construction Center of Excellence, and the Building Trades.

Weekly GRIT students

Last year, we had a theme of Above-The-Line and recognized student that were that demonstrated characteristics or actions of being Above-The-Line. This year we will continue our student recognition program as part of our PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) program with our positive referrals and weekly GRIT awards.

Positive Referrals - These are referrals that any staff member can fill out on a student who they feel are consistently demonstrating actions or behaviors related to our OWLS behavior expectations of Ownership, Willingness, Leadership, and Success. When a student received a positive referral, they are give a certificate, contacted home on what they did to earn it, and are posted in the school.

GRIT Awards - In the 2024-25 academic year, we're all about embracing 'Nurturing Resilience, Inspiring Excellence' as our guiding principle. We believe that having GRIT – Growth, Resilience, Intensity, and Tenacity – is key to creating a culture where challenges are seen as stepping stones to greatness. We want to foster a growth mindset in our students and ourselves, understanding that hard work and dedication can help us develop our abilities and intelligence. Student will be nominated weekly if they are demonstrating characteristics of GRIT. Student will receive a certificate and shared out.

Staff Grit of the Week

This week, staff recognize several of their peers for the GRIT and fortitude. The elementary primary team of Mr. Richert, Mrs. Lohman, Mrs. Jewett, and Mrs. Niles were recognized for their support and commitment to another staff member needing the additional support and help. Also, Mr. Piekkola was recognized for his GRIT to step into a difficult situation and support the school to solve a challenge.
