Middle School Policy Highlights

Dress Code:

We encourage students to dress in a way that allows learning to be our focus. This is a great opportunity to discuss with your child that certain clothing is better suited for a fun day at the beach or a concert rather than school. Some dress code highlights from our Student Handbook prohibit the following:

- Hats, hoods, and coats worn in the classrooms

- Shirts with less than 2-inch wide straps

- Bare midriffs (The bottom of the shirt fabric should touch the top of the pants)

- Shorts or skirts shorter than knuckle length; holes in jeans above knuckle length

- Articles of clothing with imprints of illegal and/or inappropriate/offensive messages

- Display of the confederate flag in dress or other accessories.

Electronic Devices/Cell Phones:

Coopersville Middle School embraces student achievement and academic excellence. Reviewing recent research on the use of cell phones by school-aged children has allowed us to reflect on how to best support our students as they learn and grow. It is evident that excessive exposure to cell phones has a negative effect on school-aged children. Students may bring cellphones to school, but will not be permitted to use them during the school day unless given permission by an adult. Phones are available in the office should students need to contact their family. Students must keep their phones in their lockers once they enter the building.

CMS is not responsible for the return or reimbursement of lost or stolen electronic devices.

After School Homework Club

CMS offers a Homework Club to students from 2:30-3:15 PM daily supervised by a CMS staff member. Students are invited to work or read independently rather than receive tutoring. Students may be picked up in the front of school or walk home at 3:15 PM. Bus passes for the elementary busses will not be given to CMS students.
