Updates from Your High School DLS Team - October 20, 2020
schoology & parent portal
Teachers please remind parents that:
- They can access Schoology for Parents on the Aldine website
- Click Schoology for Parents on the right hand side and they will be able to see videos and information on Schoology Parent access
If a parent is having an issue with a chromebook, they are to still fill out a work order at the At Home Learning Website here.
Everything on the parent side is only viewable and it will only show items such as recent submissions, grades, and attendance information. Over this past weekend, parents were unable to see courses in Schoology because of the changes made from 1st nine weeks to 2nd nine weeks. As of today, they should be able to see everything correctly.

Grade Repair & Tutor Supplemental Courses
Grade Repair is an intervention designed to support students who are enrolled in face to face instruction. The model works by providing lessons that reteach objectives the student has not previously mastered during the 9 week grading period. The Grade Repair lesson modules are taught using the online program, Edgenuity (Grade Repair site).
For the 2020-2021 school year, we will enhance the Grade Repair initiative by having one course for each core subject area:
- Math - Geometry
- Science - Biology
- ELA - English II
- Social Studies - World Geography
Video Length & Pacing
Think about your personal viewing habits when posting videos to your courses. How many of you watch long videos on YouTube? Ask yourself if you would sit and watch the video you just posted.
While it is tempted to post a 45 minute Google Meet recording to your course, will students watch it? It is a best practice to take a few minutes and open a Meet Room and record a short video of your lesson that is specific. Ten minutes or less is best. Remind students to pause and rewind.
By having many small videos you are creating better flexibility for yourself. You can use those small videos for a longer time and in other lessons. Take a look at the following video for additional tips and tricks.
