Focusing on the Good Focusing on the Good

You could say it’s been a week here at RVS. After dealing with the disappointing news that our students will attend another elementary school next year, I would like to acknowledge our amazing teachers and staff for doing exactly what they do best: putting our students first. Teachers and staff worked with students through supportive conversations and class circles, and also kept their instruction and awesome classroom projects on track. A special shout out goes to Ms. Casey, who buoyed spirits with a fantastic pool party during Bridges last Thursday, and facilitated our season-long Bolton Ski Program, which came to a close this week.

The Buzz has, and will continue to be, a place for us to share all of the special activities and hard work students are up to with families, as well as a way to share upcoming community events. That is what you can expect to see here for the full remainder of the year. At times, we will include information about upcoming transition events between RVS and UES, but we remain focused on our own programming, and I know our teachers and staff are looking forward to continuing the excellent work they have done so far this year.

We have appreciated all the support over the past few days, and many folks have asked “what can we do?” - the best answer to this is to continue sending your children to us each day, supporting them at home with reading and homework, and helping them be prepared for school. While we know change is coming, we are so proud of the work we have done this year, and we still have a long way to go. We are looking forward to many more weeks of learning and working together, planting this year’s garden and several new apple trees, and taking what will surely be some unforgettable field trips. Thank you for your dedication to our little school!

We've Got GOOOOAAALS, they're multiplying! We've Got GOOOOAAALS, they're multiplying!

If you have visited our front lobby lately, you may have seen our giant "gumball machine" representing the many goals our students have accomplished over the past few weeks. Every student at RVS is aware of at least one of their learning goals, so be sure to ask your kiddo what they are working on! Some current examples include:

"I memorized all of my multiplication facts!"

"I can subtract two digit numbers"

"I know all of the first grade sight words"

"I can spell my last name!"

We are so proud of all of these learners! Keep your eyes on your child's home folder for certificates letting you know when goals have been met. Next time you are in the lobby, stop in and check out all of our amazing work!

Art and Library Update Art and Library Update

As many community members know, our longtime art and library teacher Ms. McPhetres had a health emergency this winter and has been out of school for some time. She continues to recover but will need some time, and will be out of school through at least early June. In her absence, we have been lucky to have our own Ms. Kristina Snook (our guidance counselor - and she is also a licensed art teacher!) step in to help out. Ms. Kristina has jumped right in, and classes have recently enjoyed an exciting unit focused on the Iditarod. Ms. Snook's husband, a former Iditarod racer, recently joined us for an all-school celebration sharing his experiences in this thrilling event, helping kids connect to what they had been reading about in library.
