Good Morning Memorial Families,

What an absolutely beautiful summer we are having! It was nice to see some of you at the library a few weeks ago for our reading series, and I hope that your children have had opportunities to enjoy some good books on their own this summer. As we transition into August, I wanted to provide all of our families with an update on what will be new this year, what to expect in the coming weeks, and some opportunities to get involved!

One of my goals for this year is to get us back to pre-pandemic culture in school. This means providing more opportunities for all of us to gather and learn and grow together. Here are some things to put on your calendar now, so that you do not miss a moment!

See Your School Day

On Thursday, August 22nd, from 3:30-5:00pm, Memorial School will be open to families to find your child’s classroom, drop off materials and supplies ahead of time, and perhaps reconnect with or make new friends. Teachers will not be here, but Mrs. Bell and Ms. Chuk will be. Please know that classrooms may not be set up yet, but at least your backpacks can be a bit lighter

New Family Orientation

On Thursday, August 22nd at 6:30pm, Mrs. Bell and Ms. Chuk will hold a New Family Orientation session for parents and caregivers who are new to Memorial School. We will provide you with information that will help you as you make the transition and maybe you will meet a new friend! This session is intended for adults only.

Kindergarten PlayDate

On Saturday, August 24th at 10:00am, our PTO will host our annual kindergarten playdate. This is an opportunity to meet new friends, hear a story by the principal, and have popsicle and playground time. We hope to see all of our new kindergarten students there!

Welcome Back Picnic

On August 26th, our PTO will be hosting a welcome back picnic on the back field from 5pm to 7pm. There will be food and ice cream trucks and families will have a chance to touch base ahead of the start of the new school year. Hope to see you stop by for a bit that night!

Open House

We will be changing the format of our Open House Nights this year. It will be an adult-only event to allow for two presentations for families. The first 25 minutes will be in the cafeteria with Mrs. Bell and Ms. Chuk, and then you will head to your child’s classroom for a classroom-specific presentation. This will give families the chance to learn more about the day to day in the school and will keep the classrooms a bit less crowded on those nights. See below for dates/times for each grade.

Teacher Assignments

Teacher assignments for 2024-2025 will be available to see on Powerschool through the parent portal on August 12th. A lot of time, care, and effort was put into creating class lists that are balanced and have familiar faces. Requests for changes will not be honored as it can have a domino effect on the entire grade.

New Staff

We are pleased to welcome several new educators to our school! In particular, we have three new kindergarten teachers joining our team!
