Cedar Grove Friday Flash

August 28, 2026

Cedar GroveFriday FlashAugust 28, 2026

Dear Cedar Grove Families:

Welcome to our new and returning students to the 2026-2027 school year! We have had a wonderful first week and a great start to this new year. Staff worked hard to prepare for your children, and they came into the building with lots of smiles and excitement. We are looking forward to another great year of teaching and learning here at Cedar Grove!

A huge thank you to all of our families for attending movie night last Friday. It was a nice time to come together, see old friends, and meet new friends before the school year started. We appreciate the PTA for kicking off the year with this fun evening, and these events are only possible through your partnership with our school. We hope you will consider joining the PTA, as your membership and support makes events such as this possible. In the PTA section near the end of this newsletter, you will find membership information and some of the events that are planned so far. We look forward to working together to benefit our kids.

Students will continue to use their Chromebooks during the school day. Please click HERE and take a few minutes to review the expectations for student use with your child/children. Also, please note the costs to repair or replace the Chromebook if damage occurs. Thank you.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Mr. Wynne and Mrs. Roberts

Annual Notice for Directory Information and Student Privacy

Schools provide directory information for public listings such as honor roll, awards, and other notices in the newspaper or on the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) website. A student’s name, address, and telephone number may also be released to organizations of any combination of parents, teachers, and students of a school. Unless you tell them not to, schools can release the information without your prior consent. Directory Information includes the following items: student’s and/or parent’s name, address, e-mail address, and telephone number; student’s date of birth; major field of study; grade level; participation in officially recognized activities and sports; degrees and awards received (including honor roll); most recent school attended; dates of attendance; photograph, or other likeness; the weight and height of members of athletic teams; and other similar information.

If you do not want the school to release your directory information, complete the information and return this notice to your child's homeroom teacher by September 11, 2026. Additional copies of this notice can be found on the MCPS website, and are available in Spanish, French, Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, Amharic, and Portuguese. This form must be completed every year.

From Mrs. Hirschhorn, Media Specialist

Welcome everyone! I've missed you! The books have missed you! This week has been busy with Kindergarten transition day, open house, and media orientation classes. I've been delighted to see everyone again! Here is this month's Media Monthly. Please bookmark it as it is updated every Friday with lesson information, new books, Daily News information, as well as any special events that are sponsored by the media center. Your child's media schedule is also listed. If your child does not have access to the Virtual Media Center, please have them log into their student account and accept the invitation to be part of this site or contact me and I will send out the invitation for your student. I use it throughout the year during my media lessons, to send out links or share resources. All fourth graders have received a Daily News Show participant application which is due Friday, September 4. The application is also online for you to print if the paper copy goes astray! Do not hesitate to get in touch - especially if you are interested in volunteering in the media center. We love our parent and grandparent volunteers - you get on the job training, you get to see what our students check out, and you get to observe our lessons! Have a wonderful long weekend!
